R600 HD2900XT 8.38 RC7 *Links inside*

Not as far as i know, as you could enable it on your x1900's etc... with a registry hack in the older drivers, or through Tray Tools (think thats the one).

Whats EATM?

Its a new Anti-Aliasing method which takes no hit on performance, it just blends textures to reduce Jaggies.

You can find some info about it here with screenshots so you can see it in action (just scroll down a bit). :)

Its already in the drivers unofficially (since the Cat 6.12's), but you have to do a registry hack to enable it or use ATi Tray Tools, its supposed to be coming in the Cat 7.5's officially though next week.

whoa, no performance hit? you sure about that? sounds too good to be true.

whats 2xAA with ETAM like compared to 4xAA normal? in both performance and image quality?

ETAM does not affect framerate. Its purely for textures with transparency. There are screenshots and more detailed examinations in the thread linked to, I suggest you read it.

yea i did read that thread and saw the screenshots of the chain link fences, it does look very good indeed. and if it costs no performance hit then its a more than welcome feature.

To be honest the differences with and without eatm are so minimal its hard to tell if its doing anything at all in those pics. The fence in one of those pics is meant to be smoother but with the before and after pics thers virtually no difference.

Those pics don't do EATM justice.
There was a huge thread on Rage3D with people posting full screenshot of various games showing the different types of EATM and the pics were stunning.

got link??

So let me get this right... ATi implemented AA poorly on the 2900 series, however now they have a method of AA rendering that looks just as good and causes zero performance hit?

If this is true, you can put me down for an HD 2900XT right now. ;)

EATM only works once AA is enabled. i think its similar to nvidia Transparency AA.

i found a even bigger problem with AA and tree canopy shadows on.

nah im totally JOKING it happened because i had "set timescale to 0" in the console and i tryed to fast travel in time lol

btw if your wondering, i was only using HDR and 4x box AA, and no addaptive AA, in that screenshot

probably has to start dropping stuff from being rendered to when AA is set higher to cut down fps loss

Or just a driver bug? What is it with you and jumping on anything not NV?
