R600 or G80

R600/256 pipes/2gig ram - esimated 27,456 in3Dmark 06 :)

OMG yes! I remember this guy! :D

I think after he is now known as Easyrider around these parts. ;)

Well i must agree with easyrider. The urgiment here whats better a G80 or R600?, its simple G80. you cant compare a card that doesnt exist with so called made up Specs of the R600, please restart this thread when the R600 is released, as then and only then will you be able to compare the two. for now though with out a doubt the 8800gtx is the best / fastist / most Beastlyist card that your hard earnt cash can buy you. Period. and as for power usage, well Easyrider is right again this card is as if not more powerfull than a x1950 Cf setup or a 7900GTX Sli setup and it uses the same amount of power as these other two setups. admitly if you have two of them in SLI the power consumption is ridiculas at an understament but the point is you dont need two, one is more than powerfull enough and produces less heat and takes up less space than having two other cards in SLI or crossfire.

AS for the comment That Easyrider is a Nvidia fanboy, well your just being stupid, your pethetic. Anyone who craves the best PC components would understand. at the moment what can ATI offer preformance that will match the 8800GTX? vise-Versa what can AMD offer that will match the Intel CORE 2's? i myself said i wouldn't use Intel as i religiosly used AMD, not out "fanboyism" it was because AMD were the best preformance in 3D gaming, but now the tables have turned and i have bought myself a Conroe chip cause they kick AMD's ass. does this make me A " FANBOY " , answer NO!!! i am just choosing which Components are the best for preformace. theres nothing that anyone here can say that if you want PURE power you need a Conroe matched with a 8800gtx or even 2 in SLI. End of discussion.

Quite comical that I should see this thread on the top of the board just after thinking to myself - where has the fanboyism on this forum dissapeared to lately?

I know they couldn't be supressed for long ;)

nice.

and easyrider, what games do u actually play on your PC (if any) ? because i'm not sure why u you need to upgrade your card so often, just to have the best. A decent gamer can play on nearly anything. I personally think spending that much on a graphics card is just irrisponsable with money and u don't prove anything

hmm..that sounds like sour grapes too me. If you cant afford to buy what you want then dont **** other poeple off for doing what the enjoy.

I am much the same as easyrider...and personnally enjoy pretty much having some of the best hardware available...even if you do upgrade a couple of times a year...its generally called being an enthuisiast!

and yes...i am buying a 8800GTX next month even though my 1900XTX is fast enough allready:D

All sorts,

I upgrade because I can and enjoy benching testing the latest hardware.
I enjoy overclocking and PC hardware in general.

I upgrade so often so I dont lose shed loads of cash on previous gen by keeping them to long.

If I hadn't of sold my GX2 a week before 8800 hit do you think I would have got 320 for it?

Use your head.

I love new technology

Thats it.

After all this is a PC enthusiast hardware forum so I'm not really sure I fully understand your statements TBH.

Thats it,

I have been waiting for a new mobo to come out that allowed me the oppurtuinty to clock my conroe to 4ghz.

I have been waiting since conroes release for this. The 680i has allowed me to push my rig further.

Do i need this extra speed?
No i do it for fun and the satisfaction of getting fantastic clocks. :D

Imagine if graphics card enthusiasts could present a balanced argument? I think the world would implode.

8800GTS is faster than an X1950XTX, and is often cheaper if you shop around. So right now, isn't it somewhat of a no brainer to just get an 8800GTS if you were planning on a high-end ATI?

OK its not 'fair', but what is 'fair'? When the R600 comes out, if its faster for the same or less, why not just get that? Is it fair to compare R600 to G80 when the R600 came out later and could just be clocked higher to ensure its faster?

The G80 is a major, major accomplishment. Over 680 million transistors (that's more than a Quad Core processor from Intel on 65nm), on a 90nm process. Most of the transistors manually laid out. Don't rain on the NV engineer's parade, its just not polite.

G80 is fast, very fast, especially with AA. It can do HDR with AA too. Maybe that's why its ruffled a few feathers, it is strong in all the areas ATI were traditionally strongest?

BTW AMD had no impact on R600, unless you think GPUs can be designed in a couple of months (they can't).

Don't need 680i to get Core2 to 4ghz. Pick almost any 965 or 975 board and your chip'll do 4.
Don't need cutting edge hardware to get fantastic clocks it's actually more fun clocking lower end hardware and beating the cutting edge stuff.... Is this not the reason many people overclock....?

And to keep the thread on topic, R600. Faster than G80 and more than likely faster than the G80 refresh too...

Oh is that right?

Thanks for the heads up.

My P5W DH would not boot with my chip at 4ghz.

topped out at 424 FSB
The infinity didnt either
the Badaxe I had acted odd at 3.8ghz in prime.

Maybe I should have bought an ASROCK instead. ;)

680i straight in at 4ghz

If the R600 is faster than G80 I'll get one. :D

vMods mate, save you an absolute fortune in CPU's and mobo's too. This is an overclockers/hardware enthusiast website after all bet 99% of people on this forum use vmods...

Asrock? Now you're just being stupid... even 3ghz is a push LOL

Only bought one 6600

NOPE the three mobo's I mentioned where crap.Pure and simple.

I had to mod the Badaxe with conductive ink just to open the OC options in the bios.Absolute rubbish.

This 680i is the best up to now for me.

Dont knock the Asrock's :p
