haha, i just bought the same psu :)

why did they make the vga cables red?! :(

Ok i did 2 days of tests of MSI AB with standard sapphire uber mode bios.
And i am back on asus cause of few reasons:
1. With MSI Afterburner installed i am back to my memory clock jumping up and down problem. I think its RTTS related..
2. AB +100mv limit does not cut it :/
3. No matter where i set power limit up ect. Sapphire bios limits max power to 280 wats. With Asus bios in my case power limit is 368 wats

Well now we are waiting for TRIXX and some better sapphire bios. Or some tweaked bios or something.

Another thing is memory clock. If i am anywhere else than 1500mhz i get worse scores so:
1450 lower
1475 lower
1500 best
1525 lower than 1500
1550 lower than 1500
1575 lower than 1500
1600 same as 1500
1625 same as 1500
1650 same as 1500

All in all with gpu clock at 1170 its pointless to go above 1500mhz on memory at lest in heaven and games. Looks like 6000mhz is more than enough for 290x to spread its wings :P

Anyone can confirm ??
Is it only on eplydia or w/e memory not hynix ??

Anyone with hynix can do test like that in heaven ?? i was working out while watching benchmark run over and over again. So not bored :D

The lower scores at higher mem clocks is usually the error correction kicking in. I don't know yet if its the same with the r9 cards but with the 7 series their is a sweet spot between core and memory that will produce better/as good results as taking the core or memory to there limits, for me with my last 7950's the spot was somewhere between a ratio of 0.65 and 0.79

vUNREALv looks like it. My tests show that Elpida that i got will do up to 1700mhz no problems.
But going over 1500 simply has no point.

Anyhow runing furmark few times today melted down thermal pad on VRMs
and:

Temps are LOWER by 10c on VRM1 than what i had 3 days ago even tho its around 5c warmer in the room today :)

Anyhow 1170/1500 it is for me. Cant get anything better without artefacts from this card i got :)

Steady on with fur mark lol its a terrible test for cards just burns them up!

The memory ecc is hard to spot as often your PC runs fine no lines or artefacts but scores or fps can be lower than lower clock speeds, its a pain to spot but when you do you can find your sweet spot.

I don't know if you do any mining (bit coin/litecoin) but if you do you will see you can get better hash rates with a certain ratio of core/mem clock some people find it around 0.5 to 0.7.

At your speeds your ratio is 0.78 (core clock divided by actual mem clock) which in my experience is the sweet spot for the 7 series cards.

Happy overclocking :)

I'm experiencing the same issues in regards to memory clock using these drivers, on v8 i could run Firestrike extreme no problem @1200/1625.
Which got me around 13500 gpu score.

tried again today to see if v9 has increased anything and can only get 13000-13200 on these drivers, very noticable fps drops in certain sections of the benchmark where there never used to be.

dropped the memory clock to 1500 and scores were around 13350, like you, anymore or less than 1500 and my score drops.

Hopefully next driver sorts the issues out.

Guys I have Gelid Rev. 2 aftermarket cooler installed on my 290x. Temps are great except for VRM 1 - it got as high as 107C today while I was playing Batman Origins, VRM 2 never goes above 77C.

Not my pic, but the bit marked 1 is where VRM1 is located, right? If so my cooler's fans don't cover that area which might be a possible explanation of why they get so hot.

What's the best way to bring VRM1's temp down? Should I use different adhesive tape for the heatsinks (i.e. akasa thermal tape), use different heatsink for the VRM (i.e. enzotech mosfet), or mod the cooler and replace the fans on it with bigger 120mm fans that would cover over VRM1 area (I haven't done this before, so would need some guidance on the best way to do it).

Considering that VRM is on the edge of the card facing the case side panel, perhaps a side fan on the panel would do the job?

If your case does not accomodate a side fan then it is easy enough to mod, some double-sided adhesive pads or cable ties or something.

I found this thread which discusses what you want to do: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=22719581 - opinion seems to most of the airflow would be wasted with the edges sticking out beyond the card's edges.

Side fan sounds like a good idea. My case actually has vents on the side that could redirect outside air onto to the vrms. That should help cool it, right? I'm gonna replace the vrm heatsinks with enzotech mosfets anyway.

Not my pic, but this is my case. Cooler Master Elite 430

Hey guys,

Wondering if anybody else has had this, so I was playing a bit of BF4 campaign this morning as I wanted to see something, and after logging out I noticed that despite my overclock, my Core was capping out at 1000Mhz:

lubH4Ia.jpg.png

The memory overclock was fine, as you can see it hit a max of 1450 as per the OC setting.

If I apply the overclock via preset manually though the issue seems to go back to normal and core clock actually gets to 1200 as per the setting. Was just wondering if anybody else had experienced this?
