R9 290X Owners Thread

Black screens are a pain in the ass, and its ****ing me the frak off.

I wish AMD would say SOMETHING... Like "We're working on a new driver" or some ****.

Exactly, they're really a pain in the ass. Paid a ~100$ early-adopter markup on release-day and instead of having more time for gaming with the new baby I have to deal with those freakin' blackscreen-issues which every Elpdia-assembled card seems to be affected by and AMD keeps ignoring.

Oh, and btw., sorry for misinforming you guys: Got the issue again in BF4 yesterday at 100% fanspeed after like 20 Mins. First I thought it was solved by fixing the fan Speed to 100% but that was probably just random that I didn't get a crash after doing so. But I think it's maybe dependent of temperatures: At stock settings, RAM voltages are too low and if the RAMs reach higher temperatures, higher electrical resists will lead to higher instability-tendency.

Odd question, but can you guys connect to your PCs via Remote Desktop from another machine/smart phone when you get the black screen?

I haven't had any black screens when I've been sitting at the PC, but twice in the last week I've been unable to RDP to my PC from work (it prompts for credentials and connects but I don't see the desktop), and when I get home it kinda looks like I've had a black screen and the PC needs to be reset.

hey guys I was wondering if someone would be able to help me. I can move the voltage and other sliders in msi after burner, but they are not actually applied. If I check the CCC window, the new changes gets applied momentarily and revert back to default. Am I doing something wrong?

I have a sapphire 290x with asus bios and AB beta 17. Will appreciate the help. Regards

I had a problem with MSI AB resetting my clock back to stock on every reboot, to fix it i unistalled Catalyst Control Centre (only)

Matt Might know more about it.

Does that fix it permanently? IE every reboot MSI AB OC sticks.

It does for me, just make sure you keep overdrive locked (after factory reset) so it doesn't interfere. If you have a custom fan profile probably worth going into afterburner settings, fan tab and ticking Force fan speed update as well. I think the problem you mention is because afterburner loads before CCC starts so CCC is applying its own clock and fan speed settings after afterburner does.
