The contents of the 1st patch have NOTHING to VERY LITTLE to do with any feedback from the community owing to the time scale involved between the games release and the patch release in my opinion.
I am almost certain that the majority of these issues were allready known to the developers when the game was shipped and they thought rather than delay the initial release to release the patch shortly after.
The process of creating, testing, certifying (On consoles) and releasing a patch takes a while so I am almost certain these were fixes Codies had planned all along anyway, maybe I am wrong.
The second patch (Assuming there will be one??) will be the "Money Shot" so to speak as this will show us how much they have been listening to their community/customers and how much they intend on supporting their product. GRID has had a great initial reception and with the right continued support from Codies, could go down as an all time GREAT game.
All depends if Codies wish to "TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN" or if they are in it for the long haul, either way, we shall see.
One thing Codies (and other developers) need to realise is that PC and Console gamers are 2 VERY different animals and both expect something different from their gaming in the whole and I think the games should reflect this. Games on the Wii/DS are invariably different to their 360/PSP Counterparts as to take advantage of that platforms strengths/weaknesses (Depending on your personal opinion) and the requirements of the majority of the users on that platform. I do believe the same ethos needs to be carried over regarding PC and Console games. A few things which come to mind are Mouse support in the menus and for driving, TrackIR support and SLI/Crossfire VGA Configurations. To ignore these is crazy, surely these should be seen as a strenghth on the PC platform and should be used where possible? I do now own a TrackIR device myself although am considering getting one and you have to remember by adding support of this to the game is only going to INCREASE sales as the owners of these are likely to buy games if a product supports it as they have invested soo much in it that that will invariably try most of the things released which are compatible with it. Implement the support well, and "They will come". I AGREE, mouse support and TrackIR is not ESSENTIAL although it all adds to the overall "Polish" of a game.
Why release a game on the PC if your not going to FULLY support the PC?
You mention the time/cost constraints of adding such features? The game is selling VERY well. Instead of putting the shareholders first, how about the customers? Also, the Cost price of the PC version is VERY low compared to that of the console SKU. I am aware there are other overheads when releasing a console game but why is the overall COST price of the PC version soo low? I am sure the majority of Hardcore and casual gamers would not mind paying an extra fiver, maybe a tenner to cover such development costs?
I appreciate this post is weighted more towards the PC community but I do believe some of the points raised cover both PC AND CONSOLE platforms and at the end of the day, we are ALL gamers and we await Codies response.
Remember Codies, ACTIONS speak much louder than words
Feedback welcome.
