yeh i was replying to be polite, i knew all that but my question was i still feel catchup is on still to a degree.

No such thing as catchup still on, in fact there is no catchup even when the server has it set to when im playing...if you get my drift :D

I just got this and im having a strange problem :(

Game looks and plays really nice, but every other car seems to be able to drive twice as fast as me

On the starting grid, even if im at the front, with my foot down, within seconds im last! Am i doing something wrong?

Are you using a steeringwheel and pedals, gamepad or keyboard? sounds like you might need to recalibrate your axiseses as you may be only getting 50% throttle or something... either that or youre just plain poo.

Well you will wheel spin if you have full throttle at the start, so that's why you will be last pretty soon.

For the rest of the time, there is an easy check to see if you are getting full throttle - there is a white bar that increases on the right hand side of the rev counter - check it to make sure you are filling all the white bars!

How many of you have raced enough to understand how little slip streaming actually affects a car I wonder? I definitely notice a slight catch-up effect of sorts when slip streaming in the game, which feels just about right.

I've got no idea how it is supposed to work, it just seemed a bit strange to me that the top speed of my vehicle is the same regardless of whether I'm drafting or not. Maybe it only really affects acceleration..?

Anyone having any issues with 1.2. After installing my game won't start up. Just shows that first race driver grid screen and stays there. Go to task manager and it says its not responding. 1.0 and 1.1 work fine I've got the retail pack.

Slip stream in real life isn't an 'instant' gain, it takes a while to 'sync' into. That at least is my experience of it through years of racing. There is a definite slip stream effect in the game, example;

Was in touring cars in Milan down the long main straight, normally it would top out at 163mph. I was a car length behind the leader and by the end of the straight I was rubbing his rear bumper at 165mph.

I guess you just have to take into consideration that it's a minute difference and won't feel like a huge leap in speed.

Im using a pad, i tried playing with keys originally which is impossible but the same thing happens.

I'll have a look at the recalibration settings. Its not just on the starting grid, i can drive like an absolute demon, playing on 'Basic' setting and never see another car for the rest of the race.

Don't think im that 'poo', driving games are prolly my favourite genre. I managed to complete 50% of Gran Turismo in my trusty Honda Prelude SI Vtec :D I loved that car, you can beat much faster cars with it just coz it had stunning handling

Thanks

I still don't buy it, I mean this was on like the Le Mans circuit with huge long straights, a couple of times I was slipstreaming for a good 5s+ and still couldn't break 258mph. I know the SS was 'working' cos I got an audio comment.

Rumour has it, that your car loses speed as it gains more mileage
I don't know how true that is and is yet to be proven, but people on the official forums claim this to be the case.
Codemasters have yet to comment on the matter.

well since ive gone to 1.2 patch whewn i go into a ranked race they choose which country ok then when it goes to choose which race in the list i only get 1 option at the top,i get the box but only 1 race in it and the rest is blank,so i just have to race what ever is choosing, anyone else got this prob cheers

I can confirm this, slipstreaming on the straight at Le Mans makes no difference to the top speed, I was driving behind a similar Audi R10 and I could not get closer to the car in front at all.
