Race Driver: Grid

Thanks SkeeterPSA you solved the problem for me, i installed the Catalyst 8.2 drivers and now it is running great :D

I am finding the in race audio to be tedious in the way that it contradicts its self, one minute saying my car is going to blow up and then the next saying there is no major damage to it lol

After much messing around i have found the best setting for me.

1920x1200 MSAAx8 V-Sync 60FPS
Shadow Med Everything Else Maxed Out.

Setup
LanParty UT 790FX-M2R
AMD 6400+BE@3520
Samsung SM-305T 30 2560x1600
3x3870 XT "Toxic Edition" @ 850/1200 Only Single Card Performance in the game ATM
8Gb GeIL EVO One PC2-8500@4-4-4-12-16
4XWD Caviar 500GB RAID-0 2XWD Caviar 500GB Data
Gigabyte ODIN GT 800W PSU

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Codemasters\GRID Demo\hardwaresettings\hardware_settings_config.xml
Open with notepad
Find <postprocess enabled="true" blur="true"

Change to <postprocess enabled="false" blur="true"
Save

You will lose motion blur & depth of field as well tho.

Just had a bash. Everything is crisper and sharper with it off, but its also darker. Like shadowy areas are now really dark, and everything felt more sterile. TBH, it looks like the GT5 Videos ive seen, very clean, very crispt, but thats not really chat Grid is about. Leave it on, it creates a better atmophere.

Exactly what i felt.

Wonder if there's going to be a proper community setup, would love to play with some of you guys in the full game after my exams (roll on June 16th )

Just been playing the demo, and I must say i'm not as excited as i thought I would be. It's Ok, but no more.

However, it runs like a dream! I had every setting maxed, with 8 x AA, and the game ran beautifully, even online! Codemasters have done a good job with it over Dirt graphically, but im now not sure if i'll be cancelling my pre-order for the game.

Brave of them to put a demo out though, just a shame it's put me off.

I've been trying out the multiplayer over the weekend and it's good but there's some idiots on there playing it like it's banger racing. Mostly Germans and Italians that don't like being beaten by the English! :p

I think I'll avoid the games set up with damage turned off cos then there's an incentive to keep away from other cars and race properly.

Wish you could scale the amount of bloom used, only thing graphically I hate, Dirt was the same though. Codemasters seem to love it, wish they'd put it on a slider maybe.

There was a mod out for Dirt where you alter the amount of bloom on a scale without losing all the other effects with it. If you just turn post-processing off in the ini the game looks a little flat.

Still not made my mind up, but i'll probably give it a go. Got it on pre-order for £20, so may as well:)

Anyone know what physics engine it'll be using?
A realistic one or the one from DiRT?

Last Race Driver game I tried (not sure which), I took Copse flat in 6th on my second lap and uninstalled the awful nonsense.

Bring back ToCA, the orignal playstation/PC one. Evil physics (you could know when the car had cocked a wheel and was hopping on the other three going round paddock hill), and absolutely accurate models of BTCC drivers (ie, axe murderers all of them).

I'd quite like a racing game with all the latest graphics and stuff, but only if it feels remotely like a car.

the online for this terrible

ive only finished one race so far because of people with stupid lag or raming into you on the first corner

also the console like vote process is anoying

ive had some cracking races online over 7 laps with damage on, but tbh its pot luck whether you find a decent bunch of like minded peeps who want a proper race ..

the full game will apparantly let you have private race sessions and tons more options so for now i'd just perservere with online shenanigans knowing the full game will solve these problems.

I don't think Codemasters will just fix the bugs and then leave it how it is. They're a company that do listen. Hopefully online will be improved as it could then go down as one of the greatest online racers.

As for online, you need to know three things:
If starting 1st-3rd: Floor it at the beginning and get out of the way of that first corner ASAP!!

If starting 10th-12th: Try and sit back and fly through the clouds

If starting 4th-9th: Um, good luck :D

Like I've said, hopefully there's a buddies option or something to add good drivers. Hopefully all the banger racers will go to Flatout: Ultimate Carnage on PC once its out (around middle of june, only 2 weeks after GRID's release)

If you want to tweak the strength of the bloom simply open up in \Race Driver GRID\postprocess the effects.xml with notepad or notepad ++ and edit values like.

Find things like.

Param name="bloomAmount">1.000000</Param>

Then change to somit like

Param name="bloomAmount">0.600000</Param>

Might work.

Hope thats the case, been playing it online most of this morning, and i'm getting more into it the more I play it. Be great if you can easily set up a private race with buddies.

I would love an OCUK Touring Championship :D
Especially if some modders can make some OCUK touring cars :)

I did see them settings but was to chicken to mess with them as there are quite a few with the bloom option & i had my hopes up reading through your post only to see that you have not taken the plunge your self :).

Ok here goes :D

Well i modified all the BloomAmount values to 0.500000 but i am not sure it reduced it. Maybe i would need to alter contrast and lum settings also but cant be bothered to. :p
