Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Slowest 980TI and Fury-X from Kaaps thread.

980 Ti @1420/2025, GFX Score 4622
GPU Fury X @1065/500, GFX Score 3960

Predictably with a good overclock the 980TI is a solid chunk faster, but the Fury-X with a mild overclock, not. About 15%

Whatever, £200 and destroys my 970 at any clock.

I don't personally put much value on benchmark scores but I think ultimately the 480 will be hit simply for offering 980/390X performance (and sometimes a bit more) for the launch price of a 960/380.

Guess we'll know more in a few weeks.

Newer video from the chiphell guys with newer bios and driver on an 8GB model.

3.4k graphics score on firestrike ultra giving it fury nano performance.

Wow - IF true the 480 will be a resounding success.

My 390x gets 3060 in the same benchmark, and that's a 300W+ card - amazing efficiency gains made by AMD!

so lets ignore the whole DX9/11 library of games yeh?
Most of us have already played through those games so why buy a new gpu for replaying old titles? Pretty obvious that dx12-performance is what one should look for when upgrading at this time, considering every big title coming out later this year is going to be built for either dx12 or vulkan.

Fantastic gains for AMD if this as any truth

now its all down to price ....lets hope there is no mega gouging....

remember AMD didnt even bother design it's own cooler to the RX480, they just slapped on it the 300/pro duo cooler, could be as stupid as that.

At less than half the power consumption the Hawaii blower cooler would do a much better job of keeping it cool.

Kaap is right, the thing doesn't use enough power to get hot even with a low end cooler, or are we saying its difficult to cool the GTX 960?

That card is not being cooled correctly especially if the guy lobbed a cooler from a 290 on it, PCB designs are totally different etc, I would imagine a correctly cooled one from an AIB will be beastly if that video is anywhere near real.

And if it drops at the rumoured £220 or so then I can see them selling in bucket loads

What I'd like to see is a properly cooled one and how much OC headroom it has, AMD could potentially change the gpu landscape if that card with an OC trades blows with Nvidia 1070 but costs half as much

Raja on the stage did say it ran cool so the 90c is a bit weird to say the least.

It's because it has the wrong cooler bolted onto it, the guy removed the stock one as he thinks it won't break the NDA or something lol

Anyhow let's wait and see some proper results from proper cards, but if this is any indication then it's looking positive in regards to performance

if he was worried about NDA, he shouldn't make a selfie video, why film his face...

Stick aftermarket cooler on, profit?

Most people would be going for an aftermarket cooler like the MSI Twin frozer, Sapphire Nitro etc. which can easily knock the 90C down to about 75C (assuming the cooler on this leaked 480 test is not cooling properly.

The 3dmark score is pretty good and makes it faster than a 390X. The temps are hopefully due to bad cooling since the card is only 150w max.

edit: noticed that the temps start off at about 70C at the start of the test so almost definitely a high idle temp due to bad cooler placement.
