Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

It's about AMD targeting the mass market. If the performance is there then I think they got it spot on. I'll be waiting for Vega, but then I have 2 390s. Might pick up a 460 or 470 for my 3rd PC though.

It looks like the RX470 is Polaris 10 based and the leaked die size is probably correct.

yeah, also the orientation and size of the die can give some credibility to a 290x lightening cooler not working well with it.

But it is most likely the cut down polaris 10 while the 480 is a full p10, unless there will be 3 cuts. But who knows, the yields might be far better tahn we know.

They could have taken so much market share with something a little faster than a 480, to just be behind the 1070 for $100 less, I would have got one, don't think I will be upgrading to next year now.

Nah, I reckon their's a few more CU's in there for a 480X down the line ;)

£300? What are you basing that on? The price has already been confirmed to be $230 for the 8 Gb version, so that's closer to £200 with VAT included.

You've not added GB tax and GB retailer tax, it will be £240-250 for a decent one, maybe a reference hair dryer will be £219 for the 8GB.

Just got in from work and as expected, the 480 is the top end card. I did say that they use failed chips for the lower end cards, so very unlikely to see anything higher. Still, if the 480 has some good performance and is $200, that is a nice card for the money.

Exactly. As stated the $100-$300 range is 84% of gamers. AMD could do very well out of this. More cash to splash on the halo products people here are more interested in.
