Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The point is AMD don't want to see any price drop until they have products on the shelves.

It would hurt Nvidia more than AMD. As the 1070 has only just been released there would be numerous requests for rebates or cards returned and then purchased at the new price plus an absolute ****storm on forums and social media.

NV has done the rebates before, i don't see NV hurting.

Should be £200 if the nvidia prices are anything to go by (US price in £ times 1.2).

Not so since vat bump for lower prices shouldnt be so bad. As in

£200 vat would be £40
nvidias 1080 for example £600 and their vat would have been £120.

So conversion isnt that similar.

I've heard people say this, but people have already been buying 1070's and 1080's. Do you have any idea how much vocal criticism they'd get if those people got completely undercut within a couple weeks?

Nobody will speak, especially if the RX480 beats the 1070 at DX12 (which will because of Async Compute), or Vulcan.

Why would NV have to drop prices based on an AMD card that isn't a rival to either the 1070 or 1080

£240 for a good brand of 480, that sounds ok. If the performance leaks that are coming out are close to the reality then it will be a very tempting change from the 290 that I have had for over 2 and half years now!!

Well for one, a few people here think it might be.

But more realistically, just to put it at a better price/performance point. 1070 would likely still be a popular card just because it grazes that minimum for 1440p/60fps, but any huge disparity in price when there's not a huge disparity in performance would look pretty bad, press-wise.
