it was also mentioned in the WCCFtech article that the 480 is reported to perform better in games compared to how 3Dmark rates it. This could be due to some of the new features in the architecture being used in games more than 3dmark.

Its really simple.
The 470 has a board power of 110 Watts, so its using anything "up To" 110 Watts, its twice as fast as the 270X which has a board power of 180 Watts and uses on average 135 watts.
So the 470 has twice the performance for <80% of its predecessors power.

If the 480 is using 100W average with a max board power of 150W, then the 470 is likely using an average of 65-70W. SO it's performing way better for more like 50% of the power, which makes it genuinely an epic lead in performace/w.
AMD always fall WAY short of their fans' proclamations. They constantly convince themselves it's gonna be twice as fast as it ends up being.
Why are we arguing about bloody power consumption again?
Its like an obsession.
Lets stick to what matters, price, performance.

We can put that another way.
The 470 is "up to" 110 watts, its as fast as a 290 which uses 250 watts.
So again the same performance for 40% of the power.
Can we get off the power consumption subject now?
Sorry humbug, but I did find this funny.
You led with this post.
your next few posts were all about power consumption.
Sorry for singling you out, it did just strike me a amusing.
The thing is we are all so eager for the new cards to actually get here, we get worked up in the heat of the discussion, for example I responded to fs123 comment on the NVidia advertising, saying to my self and even posting that I didn't want an augment and yet it spiralled into one anyway, as it is really hard not to respond when certain things get posted, just as yo have ended up commenting on power consumption, directly after saying lets not argue about it.
So lets all take a breath, and move on.
I'm sure most of you have seen this slide by now.

So now we have some benchmarks we can actually compare the 470 against.
Anyone have those games and a similar system so we can get some comparisons ?

Alienware guy talks of a 490??![]()
I have a 290 and 8320e at 5 ghz; those are similar numbers I get......I just don't have Ashes - I do have overwatch and hitman - I get 120 and 60 frames.......so its along the lines its as fast as 290;
Is yours a stock clocked 290? Mine is more like 290x performance out of the box with 1040/1350. I don't have those games to test any how. A little clock boost can make a decent difference to the numbers.

Yea great cards.
It's been my Favorite card since my x1900xtx.
The 480 pcs+ has a lot to live up to in this price bracket.
So now we are at 970 perf for the 470 at $150, if true a big seller it will be.
