Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Shhhhh. There going to be more posts that AMD destroys the second hand market :p

This has me worried, mine is only 10 moths old, £290 is what paid for it and i have a feeling by the time its a year old it will be worth about 75 pence.

man humbug - I'm not sure if I should tell you what I paid :D I got 199 special with 3 games - sold the games for 40.......:D

but 470 at 150 will be hard to beat.....if its cheaper than that......I'll get that and 480 for my machines and sell the 290

Is there a spec comparison chart for the 460/470/480 ? (I know some specs are not 100% confirmed).

Whatever i get will have to substantially beat my 380 4gb to make it worthwhile.

Not being rude, but £290 could.of got you the better g1 like mine.

Yeah i bought it at the wrong time, it happens, i'm still happy with it, it doesn't have the LED logo but it still clocks to 1550/2000 for 24/7 use, has Samsung IC's and runs well below 70c even at those clocks.

Just as some companies say 2.8 times the performance/watt with AMD technologies, which turns out to be versus a 'three' generation old product.(GCN 1.0 Pitcairn GPU)

Is it misleading, yes, untrue, well no, as it only has to be accurate in a single metric for the company to be correct in their statement, just as it is with NVidia and the twice as fast as a TitanX.

Both companies are happy to sing a line if it helps their marketing, regardless of how misleading it might be.

a criminal who breaks into a house and murders an entire family is not like a criminal who breaks in and steals a TV, they are both crimes but they are not comparable.
putting both AMD and Nvidia on the same boat doesn't change the fact, that the politics and consumer strategy of one is leagues over the other company in deceit and abuse of the ill informed consumer.

Yeah you're lucky to have a low leakage die, so the end result you came out allright.
The g1 just has a better 4 pipe cooler and more tweaked bios, just the wf3 was around 270 and the g1 was 290 ish.

For me it all depends on how well the 480 clocks and performs in an itx config.
It has to beat my 1600mhz g1 by a good amount for it to be replaced.

I'm hoping the lil 11 are quite potent as it would replace my htpc r7 360, but maybe a p10 is a better buy.

I have been up and down with this thing, but one thing seems true, leaks from multiple sourced or independent cards all match up, and they match up to a very capable and efficient cards.

Not saying any of it is true but there is so much of it now from different places and all different from different GPU's it cannot be ignored.

At 1400Mhz (seemingly a capable clock) its a match for the stock 1070.
If these "AIB beast cards" with 8 + 6 Pin plugs are also true i see no reason why they would not clock even higher than 1400Mhz.

@ £200 for the 8GB i would have to have rocks in my head not to buy it when what i'm looking for is a sub £300 replacement for my 970.

We shall see, in about two weeks.

I hope the 480 is significantly faster. If there a chance I'm going to buy it'd have to be able to drive games at 1440p. Alledgedly it's aimed at 1440p so their may be slight hope.

i dont see 134mhz more overclock to boost giving it 20-30% performance to matcha stock 1070, they would need a lot more than that, and to be honest i dont see the card going to 1800+mhz while being released with 1080 base clock

If these cards overclock well, it will be amazing.

My 7970GHz although I've not overclocked it much, when I did temporarily for a little performance on the witcher 3 it oc'd fantastically. And ran cool with the stock cooler.
