Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Or the 970 until Nvidia release the 1060 which would no doubt be faster than a 980 and there in the 480.

There is no point to the 480.

Thats strange as actually according to Gibbo at least 500 people do find a point in owning a RX480 from day one. :p
Amazingly you are now predicting 1060 performance.....

Just built a system a month ago to get back into PC gaming. So been awaiting the best performance/spec I can get for my limited budget and sorry disagree its with a GTX970 or buying a reduced R390.

You seem to have the most amazing crystal ball. The 480 WILL be a 390 and the 1060 WILL be faster than the 980 and 480.

Give it a rest.

I didn't say the 480 was a 390, based off the rumours I said Fury-Nano but it seems that was a massive over hype by someone who should know, even if later came back and said he doesn't, so that leaves the 390/X, there is only a 10% difference between them.

Look at the performance of the 1070, you don't think Nvidia would look at a 390/X level card and think "we can have that with the 1060, easy, but I wont"

970s are even lower than i thought now, i just looked at the weekly deals and there is a asus one with £20 cashback and its listed for 233. So in effect its £203. ;) 970s will be even harder to avoid considering over a 480 now. Well unless your one of those that complain about the 3.5gb ram thing still.

(btw sorry for any posts today that are not great with spelling, bit tired today.)

If anyones gona complain about the 3.5gb though, they'll just grab a 980 as they did before, when it all came out. :p

HYPE BOOSTERS ACTIVATED!

Khalid on WCCFtech is now saying that AMD may move the Embargo ahead to the 24th since he has leaked too much and quite a few people are complaining to AMD about it.

I'd say the GTX x80 and x70 parts are mid range, seeing as a Titan and a x80Ti are pretty much a given in each generation now.

Dear lord I hate to think how expensive a pascal titan would be!!

I'm sort of working on the theory that they've dropped the Titan, and the 1080ti will be as high as it goes. Sort of makes sense with the fact that the 1070 costs the same as the 980 did, the 1080 costs as much as the 980Ti did. I'm expecting the 1060 to hit 970 prices.

The 1070/80 are not expensive though, as they are cheaper than the last gens top end cards, the 980 Ti and Titan X, and they are faster.

Sorry to disagree but for some of us a graphics card costing more than a console is expensive. That is why THIS card is so exciting. Clearly in the UK the £200 - £300 is acceptable for more people than going well beyond this pricepoint. Understandably many of you over the years have become enthusiasts and are not perhaps fully representative of the average consumer.

You have spent the last 5+ pages explaining how it has no purpose and it's just a rebranded 290/390 with no benefits so how have you not said that it isn't a 390?

I fully expect 1080 prices to come down once big Pascal and Vega hits.

Nvidia can only get away with those prices when AMD has got no answer. But once Vega hits, they'll need to go price competitive again. So the 1080 will drop in price, and make more room for both a Titan and a 1080Ti or whatever two GPU's they want to fit in the upper echelons.

Gibbo we could use your expertise on something.
how much a 200$ GPU in the USA, would retail at ocUK ;) ?

Well typically it works like this:

$200 / divided by rate (not rate on XE, but rate given by bank/CC which tends to be 5 cents below, YES BANKS LIKE TO MAKE PROFIT)

So today it would be $200 / 1.41 = £141.84 +20% sales tax =£170.40

Then you have items such as our cost with shipping from USA/Asia and margin which can easily add upto another 10-20% as we air freight new cards over using express shipments which is costly which adds to the cost.

Also we will always try to hit an MSRP irrelevent of our margin low or high if AMD or NVIDIA announce one. :)
