Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

So he doesn't know the performance level of the card.

I was speculating and he told me categorically I was wrong, which is fine, why being the man who should know the performance of from it visiting vendors about the card tell someone that categorically and then go back later and say he didn't actually test it. to say he didn't actually test it is not to say he doesn't know, being who he is of course he knows.

Whether or not he inadvertently breached some sort of NDA is another question all together.

it also fits with the only indication AMD themselves have put out, that Steam VR score which is lower, a good chunk lower than the 970.

Its clear all the other rumours are fabricated, isn't that what a lot of people want me to acknowledge?

Think we're wasting our time here 'bug.

The AMD Hype Shield of Deflecting Criticism (+1 save vs reality) is impenetrable.

Can't bloody win, make some speculations based on rumours, told your wrong by someone who I trust to know the facts, accept that and get a kick in the teeth for changing my opinion.

I said many people's wages hadn't kept pace with inflation, and if you worked in the public sector, you'd know that already.

A lot of us have had pay freezes lasting years.

e: even the graph in your link backs up my point.

The graph shows that between 2011 and 2015 inflation was higher than wage increases. Only from 2015 onwards did that reverse.

+1

A ramble about how bad things are:
I work roughly 40 hours a week, granted the job is a crap one (amazing grades in school and a science degree did jack all), but I can't even afford to live on my own since rent is too costly.

I don't know how I'm managing to live with my parents right now, my mum keeps saying that the government is going to make me cough up the earnings and pay the rent for living with my parents anyway. If that's the case... then what's the point in working?

The plus side is that not paying rent/bills means I can save up for stuff like GPUs. I can't spend it on much else... my room is half boxes since I can't move out.

Man forget the EU thing making our pounds into pennies... inflation does that all on it's own.

And that £300 for a RX 480 is a joke. That's over $350 including VAT. Make that $300 if the $50+ pays for the extra stuff like retailers cut, etc. At performance comparable to a 980 or 390X... it essentially would mean that the RX 480 has done nothing to improve price to performance and is pointless. Might as well get a price drop 980 for that price.

Which is why I'm holding out that the RX480's actual price will be under £200. Not something that's nearly double what it's predecessor was.

Would you run a business like that? Would you place an order for thousands of products before knowing if you could even sell them?

If you would, you sure wouldn't be around as long as OcUK has been around.

yes thats how it works, you are a retailer not quality control agency, you go by what the manufacturer tells you, and you do basic tests, not extensive ones, and even if you do those it wouldn't be you it would be someone working with you let's say 8pack for exemple.
we are talking about major companies not an unkown startup.

i would expect 8pack to know, but not Gibbo, who is still more of a marketing guy, he would run it to see basic stuff, to see noise, temps, stability etc, but i doubt he have time to spend OC it and benching it to see the extent of the performance, or go through the new features.
he knows more than us, but not that much more.

He's recently been out in Taiwan meeting the manufacturers who know exactly how their own cards perform.

Scrams 980Ti is running 1353MHz default clocks and higher clocked VRAM. His 980Ti looks like an AIB factory overclocked edition (he can correct me if I'm wrong).

If you are referring to my scores yes that is in a MSI 980Ti Gaming at stock clocks, Sir.
