Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

so 1060 coming in July, week or so after this, so the TAM not all for you, and no taking marketshare back, told you you shouldn't have been ******* about for months and months just showing the odd benchmark, instead of just releasing the thing, ahh well......

Odd, isn't it. All reports spoke of AMD having a few months clean air before nV could respond... now it's a week or so max before the 1060 hits.

I wonder if something did go very, very ****-up, so that they needed a re-think, and thus lost their advantage...?

If the 1080 and 1070 are anything to go by, it'll be

RX 480: In Stock, ready to ship tomorrow
Vs
GTX 1060 - Pre-order! Maybe arrives next week, maybe in 3!

Not really, just a case of NVidia wanting to "spoil" sales of the 480 if it does turn out to be good at that price point.

If the 1060 was due in August, then it's quite easy to "paper launch" next week with specs, benchmarks and a target price (to counter 480), regardless of whether stock is actually available for another month of so.

I dont think NV will launch this at $199 with roughly the same performance

And look at it the way you want but the rx480 launch can be quite disruptive on many fronts

Yes our XFX delivery is here and hopefully those are on it. :)

XFX reference cards also have a nice backplate too.

So do you have the 'Black Edition' and the 'core edition' cards? or did you just get the 'Black Edition' becasue of the spinny rims back-plate? :p

im pretty confident the 1060 will not be here in july, maybe not even august with enough volume, you think it's a coincidence a picture is leaked 1 day before 480 :D ?
personally i call BS marketing :D

On newegg, 4GB cards are 199, the 8GB's are listed as being 239/249 and weirdly the XFX is 269 (You have to use the mobile site to see those).

I see on every forum talk about how Nvidia always has a driver ready for a game release.... that half of them are worse than previous drivers doesn't seem to matter. Having a driver for a specific game seems to matter more to people than the driver actually being good. The previous months drivers working great for the game and the day 1 drivers causing crashing apparently doesn't matter, having day 1 drivers is the only thing that matters.

Day 1 drivers became a marketing tool to somehow hit AMD with despite no real benefit of day 1 drivers for users. They are effectively rushed drivers where first to release regardless of numbers of problems they introduce has become the most important.

Smart post and I couldn't agree more, I sold my 970 last year because of this reason. Especially during the time where there was a lot of game releases, the performance was just everywhere, like getting a new driver for a new game that had just come out and than I was having to play around with graphic settings in other games to get the same performance as on previous drivers, then it kept going downhill, it was ridiculous at that time, and the drivers were buggy (it was windows 10, but since then they have apparently got better).

In all cases I haven't had a driver problem on AMDs side, and my perf goes up every now and then in older releases.

It'll be months yet before the drivers are sorted, look how long it took them to get the Fury X past the 980, by the time the 480s finally away from the 970, the 11 series cards will be here, so no one will care :p

I'm a bit confused... is the R480 released tomorrow, or is it the announcement?
If it is being released tomorrow, then urm how do we get it delivered for release day when there is no where that even has it up for pre-order, or the UK price is not known.

I really want one to replace my Asus Radeon R9 280X.

I have a 1920x1080 monitor - and a Samsung 4K TV (which when I hook up to it, the image is displayed in the top left corner of the screen :/).
Hoping this new R480 will fix it... or go down the 1070 route?
