Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

It'll be months yet before the drivers are sorted, look how long it took them to get the Fury X past the 980, by the time the 480s finally away from the 970, the 11 series cards will be here, so no one will care :p

I think you mean past the gtx980ti :D:D:D

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1080/26.html

21 games and matching performance at 1440p and at 4k nearly Titan X. Your Fury is not so far behind. Why not sell up and go Nvidia if the grass is so green. I do agree that the Fury series is probably Amd's weakest release since the 2900 but at stock it's not so bad. It did need another 4gtb of vram though.

I've got to ask, is there going to be an advantage to having the 8GB over the 4GB card for single GPU use at 1080P, I was planning on just buying the 4GB variant when they released the AIB's but seen people saying you'll want the 8gb version for single card use.

do amd have anything like geforce experience to optimise for games?

There is a Profile option in the AMD Radeon software where you can configure games etc to get the best out of them, if that is what you mean?

I'm a bit confused... is the R480 released tomorrow, or is it the announcement?
If it is being released tomorrow, then urm how do we get it delivered for release day when there is no where that even has it up for pre-order, or the UK price is not known.

The NDA is up and OCUK will be selling (not some dodgy preorder :p) from 2PM tomorrow (or so I read).

The cooler is mostly empty except for the spinning bit and a small-medium black of alu with some fins. Rest is just empty. Bad cooler design for sure, could have had more metal in like some heatpipes or more alu with fins along the card instead of just over the gpu part. If its not going to clock much i bet they could have got away with a smaller cooler for similar cooling ability. I think the cooler they have (if performance and cooling is to be believed at leaks) is to make it look better than it really was.
Just because there's a lot of empty air doesn't make it a bad cooler. The more you tighten up the casing, the hotter the temps inside would get. And unlike open air coolers, a blower cooler needs to have a deep-sitting fan with much wider blades sitting past the processor and heatsink, so a bit of length is inevitable.

It's not a bad design at all. It may not be the best, but it's simple and it works. Open air coolers with heatpipes and all that adds significant complexity and cost. We're lucky they're as cheap as they often are, really.

thanks it is, i'm lazy and don't tend to mess with settings but the nvidia geforce experience supplies the optimal settings for your gpu so was hoping amd had the same kind of thing specific to your card

You probably never saw it as I re-edited my post but there is a screenshot of it:

There is no free shipping to Ireland.....

Take a £218, add my 3%, add shipping and this is what I pay.

Change to 2 day dpd its a tenner

If I select some of the nv cards it shows with no shipping costs

Can you check by adding a 970 to the basket and then fiddle around with delivery options ?

Also my initial point still stands that with the pound weakening the cards are getting cheaper for us in Ireland

200 pound times 145 (pound conversion) is 290 euro 8 gig pre brexit and confirmed would be price by gibbo

220 pound to euro today is 265 euro a saving of 25 euro
