Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

not guaranteed. look at all the big games on DX10 :p oh thats right there wasnt any.or literally any which made it worth while to upgrade.

i haven't seen one game yet that would make me want dx12.

which is odd as its not that new now and there hasnt been any real buzz about the big games saying and we using dx12. which would have been the case seeing as most big triple aaa games take 2-3 years to develop.

Every major game engine out there supports DX12 or Vulcan. Warhammer, BF1, Deus Ex, Star Citizen, Ark Survival, Forza, etc. are just few games coming out this year that will be using DX12. It's definitely not comparable to DX10, especially now with the Xbox One supporting it as well.

look here there is literally nothing.its marketing hype !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support its dx10 all over again.

If you look at the Microsoft Xbox stuff recently announced, they have half a dozen games that will be releasing with free Windows 10 copies if you buy the Xbone copy....

Sea of Thieves, this game looks utterly epic and will be coming to DX12
Forza Horizon 3 - DX12
Gears of War - DX12

Theres a few others also, so yes, there is plenty of DX12 games coming and these all have something in common, they are designed to run on AMD hardware in the consoles.... AMD could have pulled off a master stroke to be fair.

Anyone saying DX12 is not going to happen is in denial... games are coming, sooner than you think, yes there may be a lack of real PC AAA titles announced, but its coming via the consoles firstly, and before you say blah blah poor console ports, or blah blah Windows Games, these games will be tuned to work at the higher settings for the Project Scorpio in the future...

The minute Microsoft announed 60fps 4K gaming on their new console, it was already a win for AMD as they are the ones powering this, the DX12 games will no doubt have extra levels of features and settings available for the Scorpio and downscaled for the Xbone / Xbone S, and all the while coded for AMD hardware....

Just think about that for a moment and see what a masterstroke AMD have pulled off...

Yikes, I've been waiting months to play Witcher 3 and Doom, I've now lost the patience to wait another month for the optimal card.

Wouldn't this 490 have to be a vega card? We already have the full Polaris don't we? The 480 isn't a cut down version of the full Polaris, it is the full Polaris. If it's Vega, I'm surprised it's showing up so soon.

we will see.

for eg battlefield bad company 2 was dx10 yet 99 percent played it on dx9.

until its there in stone and what you must remember is if something is good or going to happen its shouted about early.

look at that list there isnt anything big on it.

by big i mean PC titles. none of those will be big on pc.they for consoles.

Its because the GTX970 is worse in DX12,so all of a sudden DX12 is not important.

Don't worry when the GTX1060 is released and thrashes the GTX970 in DX12,DX12 will suddenly be important again!! :p

All those talking about the GTX970 - well if you want a card with 4GB of VRAM,the RX480 4GB will probably be cheaper.

If you want a GTX970,wait a few weeks - the GTX970 secondhand price would have crashed after the RX480 and GTX1060 are released.

It's true a good amount of UWP games could use DX12, but the rest is total wishful thinking. DX11 is going to be around for a good while.

In fact, DX11 may never go away(or at least a driver-heavy DirectX API in general) as not every dev will be thrilled to have extra control at the expense of a lot of extra work.

Honestly don't know why anyone would buy a 970 with the RX480 coming out today with twice the memory, newer tech, on a better process, using less power, for the same price.

970 is old hat now.

Has nothing to do with it. Some of us are just being a bit more sensible about what DX12's adoption rate is likely to look like. And I also think many people are overhyping what it's going to bring to the table.

Well in the end its like the people saying buy a GTX970 3.5GB+0.5GB and GTX980 4GB . The GTX970 will at best cost the same(or be more) than an RX480 4GB which is most likely better in DX12 and around the same in DX11,and that is assuming it only matches a GTX970.

If it gets close to a R9 390X,then why all the GTX970 and GTX980 talk??

Even in the worst case scenario, why bother with a GTX970 now for £200+ unless it is much faster??

No one is saying DX11 is going away, it will probably never go away, but the console gaming industry is larger than the PC gaming industry....

If its pushed on consoles it will adopt over to PC, AMD will have an inherent leading edge in anything Microsoft pushes from Xbox to PC, fact.

Microsoft are keen to get back into PC gaming, fact.

Microsoft will be offering a lot of their top tier games with a free PC copy, fact.

Microsoft are pushing DX12 hard, Microsoft also want to get back into PC gaming, they will push DX12 and back it financially to get it to deliver.
