Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Heh, thats like saying, "whats the point of buying a new 980 for £220 when you can buy a year old second hand used 980 for £20 less"

Would you rather a new card or second hand card for £20 difference?

It's like saying you would rather buy a new Mercedes at 200,000 Then a year old Ferrari :p

Can't wait for the reviews. But it is sad that AMD can't match NV and bring the prices down.

Glorious Gibbo said that the 480 was within a frame of the 390x on Ashes of the Singularity.
And just look how close the 390x is to the higher cards.

FURY X PERFORMANCE INCOMING. Get back on the hype train!
Not that I, or anybody else, really cares about playing this game, so I'm not sure what that matters too much, but wasn't Polaris supposed to have improved compute abilities? Meaning that you'd think in a game like Ashes, a 480 would do relatively better against a 390X compared to other games?

Looks to be ~£220 for the XFX Black Ed with backplate and 1328MHz core. So 3rd party cooler versions are going to be £230-250 when they finally arrive. Hopefully with some decent stock OC's.

:( and I get a point for indirectly mentioning US prices which are ranging from £180-280.

I dont think any user would order their card directly from US with the current ex rate then pay VAT on top...

please read the context of the message . Hope the price range was a help to forum users to gain price floating points across the world.

***rant over***

was told b a cooling company , sources have stated that reviewers they know have had poor OC. so many conflicting stories =/

Are you kidding me. It would be a bit of a dick move to announce it anywhere near the 480 release, when nothing was indicating a higher polaris card.
I don't see why. It's not like they're going to discount the 480 and put the 490 in at its price point. It'll be a more expensive card offering more performance. Everybody knew that was coming at some point. The sooner the better for everybody, surely?

4 ACE vs 8 ACE design though.

Dx12 is future get over it, just cause we don't have many games right doesn't mean in near future it won't be crawling with games that support it. So why should ppl invest in old tech when clearly amd ones gonna last longer as seen in previous gens ?

Wouldn't it be right in-between the 480 and 1070 price point which is currently absent of a current gen card? I'm betting a lot of people have already compromised by going with either the 480 or 1070, after being told that this would be the entire Polaris line-up.

Nice find! Maybe we'll see a full Polaris chip soon enough!

Was just discussing this with my bro, wouldnt be suprised if AMD have this card in the wings, they drop the 480 and reviewers show its best in market at its price point, its got great dx12 perf and they have upped the dx11 perf, basically giving you 290x kinda perf for 280x money.

Then they drop the mic so to speak by then releasing the full fat Polaris, 390 money for Fury/FuryX or greater perf..... RX 490...

Or the RX 490 could be the rumored baby Vega in Oct? im not so sure though given Rajas tweets about Vega recently, also it seemed like the stats on the 480 looked like it was a cut down card....

And Lisa Su saying "this is the whole line up, with a smile on her face" makes me think she was playing games with us....

Anyhow, it seems we will be getting an RX 490, whether its Polaris or Vega remains to be seen, im hedging my bets its Polaris and full fat polaris at that.
