Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

There is a little hope of this happening with an X version but i won't be holding my breath. The $300 dollar mark seems a little to high for just extra memory with a decent cooler. It's a wait and see i suppose.

It would be pretty sweet if there was a higher card than the RX480 for ~$300 that got close/matched the 1070.

I do as well but I am not putting a negative slant with my posts like you are, you are almost saying it is a failure is it is only at 390x speed for £165/180.

No, that has been made up in your own head. I have said it is good, literally a few posts back . It is far from a failure.

I just didnt think it could be deemed "astonishing", that was all.

I thought we were allowed to discuss the cards critically, and not just have to gush over how amazing everything is.

The 480 only has one 6 Pin, its clearly designed to be a low power card pulled straight from the new PS4 and XBox.

Stick anyother 6 pin on it, give it more power, clock it up, its also unlikely to be a full fat SKU so there are more shaders to unlock.

I see no reason why the full fat and clocked up SKU wouldn't be significantly quicker, 20% quicker.
that would put it in a very solid spot for £270.

Wow all the arguing here is amazing.

Isn't it pretty clear that the 480 and 1080 are aimed at entirely different markets?

Yup, the 480s for the VR market, as its for all those with a headset already, that are wanting a card to go with it, or, who will be buying a one, the 1080s not for VR, so differnt market.

So why compare it to a 290 on performance alone and not everything else like size and performance per watt as well.

No one seems to give a fudge on here re performance per watt for the 290/290X/390 and 390X compared with Nvidia's 900 series, so i didnt think it mattered to anyone much.

Ofcourse it is a better card than a 290X for similar money, i was just saying it isnt what i would call astonishing that is all (as you could get a similar performing card a year ago for not much more money)

Tell that is all the people who brought a 750750ti.

1, 6 pin opens this card up to a lot of people with certain systems

All i was saying is that i was hoping AMD might come in with something with that sort of performance for that sort of money, forcing Nvidia to drop their silly prices.

Then i get that ultra silly and defensive response.

So let me get this straight..you want AMD to provide competition so Nvidia drops prices so you can buy Nvidia's cards?

Now that is hilarious. You favour Nvidia so put up with their prices.

I don't favour either vendor. Price wars are good for us all though.

Well, stick around and let us know how you get on with them. I hope to make some comparisons when they arrive.
What system are you gonna put them together with?

Just another 99 posts from you and you will get free shipping from overclockers!
:D
