Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Whilst good, i wouldnt go as far as astonishing. You could have done similar or close if you were savvy and bought a 290X ages ago when they were sold off cheap. :p

Yeah they are going backwards.

Don't understand all the people hyping this as the next 5850. The 5850 was high-end performance for low-end price, just one tier below the top. This is low-end performance for low-end price.

Is he right tho?

About which part,

Wanting competition that will drive prices down.

If you favour NVidia, don't complain about their prices.

In my opinion, one is a good idea and the other is fanboi nonsense, Ill leave you to decide which is which.

Disclaimer: I am not saying the original comment was a good one but the response was definitely not, well half of it isn't anyway.

It would be pretty sweet if there was a higher card than the RX480 for ~$300 that got close/matched the 1070.

Mould be nice but I don't think it will happen. Even if there was the rumored 40CU part around and a numb in clock speed it would still be behind the 1070. Not too far behind and $80 cheaper would make it an interesting option.

So if the 480 8gb card going to be about $230-ish, then there is a card missing right?

AMD said $100-$300 right?

So what's the $300 card?

Hope I'm wrong but the price range could be to hide the actually pricing. If Lisa Su had said $129-$229 then we would know exact prices which is not what they want to reveal before the launch.

Sorry for not looking too far back. Too much bickering in this thread.

There looks to be about a £70 difference.

Looking at the 380 and 380X there is only about £20-£30 difference.

From 380X to 390 about £70 so maybe a 490 could be in there somewhere?

Soon, some new AMD graphics cards will be available.

When they are available (or soon before), we'll know how much they cost, and how they perform.

At the moment we have a rough idea of cost and performance.

New graphics card launches are a bit like the EU referendum, a fair amount of guesswork and a lot of arguing.

480 4GB @ $200 = £137 + 20% VAT = £165
480 8GB @ $230 = £158 + 20% VAT = £190
490 8GB @ $300 = £206 + 20% VAT = £247

voting out is a vote for democracy. ;)

And like humbug put up, they did say Polaris would cover the price range for $100-300, although i think the top end part of polaris will be a 480x that more than likely clocks higher and has more shaders, or just clocks higher.

Now this looks good :D

"200+ FPS on Polaris and Vulkan"

I think that's possible @ 1080P Ultra. Doom on my overclocked 290X runs about 120fps in many areas with an average of about 85 fps. With Vulkan it should get a decent boost.

Or maybe they are talking about the full Polaris?

Looking to be between 970 and 980. Doesn't look like its anywhere near a Ti. Also doesnt look like it will get near a Fury.

However, nobody really knows exactly yet. :)

Looking at the 290X score in Hitman almost hitting an overclocked Titan X, I wouldn't be surprised to see the 480 surpass the 1080 in that game

That might be a pretty tall order seen as the 1080 shows decent gains in dx12

40% faster than a 980 Ti in this game.

Ofcourse the 480 might have improvements in dx12 as well so we shall see. It would have to be 20%+ faster than the Fury X in DX12 to top the 1080 though.
