Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

1500 only matches a 980? Thats rather crap if true as people i think would have liked a 1500 to match a touch over a 980 tho not 980ti levels lol. Hmm is the 980 in question overclocked at all? Is the 1500 stable for 24/7 is it under 60-70 temps when gaming.

(goes to look on fb now)

Hmm power draw from just the gpu seems quite high with that and isnt 24/7 and its under water or something i couldnt quite tell due to google translator not working well on that post on fb. Rather just get a 980, lower watts, good power, popular, will run better than 480 and before anyone says, no i dont care about ashes benchmarks or dx12 as no games with it are out that are any good (yet).

Yeah somethings not right there, as it was being said that at 1500, it was up with the 1070 :p

he won the lottery silicon, although at 1500mhz he should be well above 980

The graphics score is 15363 which is not too bad and faster than a stock 980. I think 980's overclocked to 1450MHz get around 16000 score. If AIB cards can hit more than 1500MHz consistently then it's a good buy.

edit: Some 980 results for comparison:-

Problem Exists Between A Keyboard? :p

Go get one and see how you get on and then tell me it is PEBKAC

Well it's either PECKAC or a faulty card. I don't know anyone else who has had any trouble using the card.

Just RMA it and get a working one, enough with the drama already.

Need to see how it actually performs in games.

Yes of course. Firestrike seems to be right up there with 980/Fury but not worth much if games fps lag behind by a lot. I think the number of Stream Processors/ROPs, etc may hold it back a bit but if it comes close to a 980 or Fury Pro then it's not too bad.

I didn't bud and nor should I have to. I know what you are saying and it is a fair point and I would have really wanted to tell people who are new to pc gaming or gaming at 1080P to get the 480 but having to undervolt the card to get it stable just makes no sense and the whole release feels rushed.

I am genuinely gutted :(

I don't know how much truth to it there is and have not really followed it, but the RX480 could be using a not often implemented feature of the pcie3 spec where it negotiates the power limit over pcie with the board. I can see how that might cause issues on old/cheap boards, but perhaps higher quality boards with their numerous bios options might mean it needs some changes to limits being set in the bios? Might be worth a try.

Dodgy translation. 260 watt draw at 1500mhz 1.35v

Amd Radeon RX 480 feasibility study by Der8auer!
Whopping 1.500 Mhz has our overclocking-Guru from the compact pixel accelerator tickled. This is technically the card value in roughly the same on with a GTX 980. However, the scenario is not really suitable for daily use, but the high potential of the RX 480.
Roman has the tension by i2c and external microcontroller to 1,35 volts, as well as the power increased by 300 % to target. I bet he only a GPU-only watercooling block from Raijintek Co. Ltd. neither the 6-Pin Pcie-connection nor the power directly from the pcie slot limit and consumption of electricity is located in this constellation at about 260 Watt.
So Exposed Inverter, there have only been with a fan chilled and under load, the temperature was 105°C in safe.
