Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

What card is there with performance and power consumption of the 1060? AFAik it is unique.

Ohh so people owning 980's are sooo concerned about power consumption that they will buy this card ?

How long does it take to earn back the money wasted on that side grade to make up for the difference in power consumption ?

Whelp my 390X Nitro died today, it wasn't even a week old. :(

Sent it off for an RMA, and there are none in stock at OcUK either; so it seems I'll either have to pick up a Reference 480, or hold out on my 6670 until the AIB 480's are out.

Either way, no video work or games testing taking place for at least 1.5 weeks :/

Sorry to hear that

I wouldn't go near the reference ones with the AIB's just around the corner tbh

Time to pick up board games for a while :-P

Yup, I really want to avoid a reference card as much as possible. Got my eye on the Sapphire Nitro or PowerColor Devil card, but that's over two weeks away.

Stuck between a rock and nasty reference it seems :(

Shame board games don't get me paid. I just got that lovely feeling of Freesync as well. :|

Hold out on AIB 480, have heard that they clock higher at lower volts due to not being as power limited as the reference board.

my guess the RX480 4GB version, it should be on average 70-80£ cheaper, uses 140watt, which should put it about 20-30watt behind the 1060, not as good but not that much different, and perform within 10% of the 1060.
but first let's wait and see how the card is, is there any stock, and if the average price is around MSRP or FE :D

Except that the 480 uses 170w.

What happened your sli setup?

That really is gutting :( Sorry to hear that dude.

You get paid for gaming?

Yeah, with AIB's so close I wouldn't get a ref version.

But what was said about the 480 was true. Same performance and power as the 970.

but its not..

and when the 1060 comes out and its the same as the 480/970/390x then what?

you cant say one thing for one brand and another thing for another brand lol.

me personally..i think theres room for every card, more choice for the end user.

What is the Firestrike score with the new drivers? Last i heard there was a significant boost in performance, scoring around 14000 GPU score which is the same as my 970 clocked to about 1600/2000, it aint pulling 170 watts at that you can be sure its a lot more.

Hi there

What kind of scores does a Fury get with latest drivers, as they will be seeing performance uplifts also with new AMD drivers due to their architecture.

What happened your sli setup?

Sold it off to a friend along with the G-Sync monitor. Wanted to give Red team a try, especially with FreeSync.

Now with Polaris I'll get to at least try their new dedicated encoding hardware.

That really is gutting :( Sorry to hear that dude.

Yeah, I get stuff sent my way to take a gander at for some devs.

Hopefully the AIB cards are soon, rumor on Reddit saying the Sapphire 480 is due the 13th, but I doubt that as OcUK still shows 22nd for the card.

Yeah this is what I don't get. People are touting the new gen cards as better despite the only real trangible improvements being power consumption, since price to performance has not moved an inch. If a person spends well £250+ on a GPU, they can surely either already have a good enough PSU or be able to afford a better one for more power draw.

The main way a GPU is better than another GPU is price-to-performance. Pure performance won't cut it either. You can have a GPU 3 times as powerful as a Titan X, but if it costs £10k nobody will buy it.

I sure hope you are right. But AMD's shenanigans with the 4GB RX 480s makes me think otherwise. As for those who want doom and gloom on the 1060, go to the official thread, you'll find plenty of naysaying there. Considering how the 1000 series has launched so far (and the 1070/1080 launched before the politics stuff happened)...

I have very low expectations of the 1060. 980 perf at 970 prices isn't an improvement. Especially considering the better OCing 970s could reach 980 level and Pascal so far hasn't overclocked as well as Maxwell. Or any new/current-gen GPU for that matter.
