Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The GTX980 was £430 do you expect similar performance with new improvements and new features for the price the 960 was? The 1060 FE is apparently going to be £275 that is still a huge drop.

Come on, that 980 customer is the new 1070 potential buyer. The problem is low cost enthusiasts that bought the 970 now need to spend more to get their upgrade. Part of that is Nvidias greed and none of their 1070/1080 meeting the listed MSRP.

Only NOW can the general consumer get previous enthusiast type performance for this price. It is obvious both camps have tried to bring as much performance as possibly into this price point.

Here is why too...

The 980 was massively overpriced, another example of pushing prices up.

Exactly why now the RX480 has been selling so well and the 1060 may also.
Most people are still on 1080 @ 60Hz they do not need much more power...

"Serious Gamers" have to pay bigger money and Nvidia knows they will with no competition until next year...

And...... once again I came into 480 thread only to see talk about NVIDIA cards. I know 1060 is meant to be direct competitor to 480 but come on guys keep it on topic. ;)

People come here to find news about 480

I'm not sure why people get so hung up about "you *must* compare only release pricing".

If the 390 has been available for £250 for the last 9 months... if the 970 has been available for £240 for the last 6 months... Well then I could have had 390/970 performance for ~£240 for the last 6 months!

And yet people then come in and say... "£275 for the 480/1060 is amazing value compared to last gen, which launched at £300".

I'm not sure *why* I'm supposed to care what the price was 1-2 years ago at launch. Or to pretend that the last 1-2 years never happened.

In the real world, if I wanted a 970/390 I could have had one for £240 for 9 months ish. So that is my base for measuring the worth of the 480/1060. Expecting me to wind back the clock 2 years to look at launch pricing... well I just find it odd.

It's up to AMD and nVidia to bring their costs down to make their new cards more competitive than their old ones. I'm not going to pay more just because it's new tech and hard to make... that's their problem, not mine, as a consumer.

Cry me a river....

No more talk on prices from me, it is deemed to be discussing the 1060. :p
Things are how they are...

Has anyone tried the following with the RX480

I see that OBS studio was released on the 10th July

There's no need to at all, it's only if you're saying that it's a 970 class card in terms of pricing. If you say that then you have to consider what the 970 cost at the equivalent point in it's lifecycle. But if you're just comparing what card you can get today then of course the release price doesn't matter (but product supply/support might, if you're a system builder).

Oh my the Powercolor card looks awesome, a tad huge though. :p

Like the look of the Devil 480X, but is it not a little concerning for those buying why the clocks are TBA (same as other makes using custom PCB/coolers)? I mean is it because they don't reliably clock much better than the reference or what?

It's simply because of NDAs really. If retailers state the actual clocks before the product is even officially announced they could get into some trouble.

Although one "leak" states the Powercolor card hits 1.4Ghz, but without any proper release information or reviews we have no clue.

One thing if for certainly the card and Sapphire have custom PCBs, and feature an 8-pin power connector. So they're most likely better at stock clocks, and overclocks and have better power delivery than the reference cards.

They were $299, I remember seeing them ^^^^

You might as well had bought a 970 to start with :D

Yes, if only I knew that in two years, the future of the country will be decided by a large group of 70 year who appear to be the masterminds of economics and clearly know things better than everyone else...

They are going to be overclocked, with better headroom, and more power. All these AIB cards have 8pin power connector, not 6pin. So more power consumption, more clocks :D
