Typical AMD .. yet another rebadge release trying to keep up with Nvidia saying 'but if you buy 2 and go crossfire it beats the 1080 by 3fps in this game for $100 less!...' -with added power consumption, more heat, more noise!! AMD's driver/crossfire support has been atrocious the last few years to say the least. This presentation made me even happier about my 1080 purchase :)

Not sure why they keep aiming it at VR, as VR needs some serious grunt in some titles and this 480 doesn't have enough of it.

Current generation of VR is only 1080 x 1200 per eye max so eq of a single screen of 2160 x 1200

All the big players state you only need a 970/290 or greater to run them.

So really any gfx card capable of running at 1440p is more than enough for this generation VR.

Try running Project Cars with all the bells and whistles on a 970/290.

AoTS benchmarks for crossfire 480 vs 1080 @ 1440P. The 480's running at only 50% scaling too. Amazing for a cheap gpu.

480 crossfire 51fps Average

1080 50.9 fps Average

At 50% scaling it means a single 480 will be about 34 fps @1440P crazy settings. How does that compare with other gpu's?
I may well go for 2 of these.

FYI with CrossFire disabled in Ashes:

1x Pro Duo Core @1000/500Mhz = 43 FPS
1x Pro Duo Core @1172/545Mhz = 48.4 FPS

For £450 surely spending a bit extra on a 1080 would be a better buy? Less power usage, no dual gpu issues.

should be enough to OC one single 480 and call it a day up to 1440p.
Its what I would do.

300euro difference here between a 1080 and 2x480 which is like you can actually buy 3x480 for the same price as a 1080.

I wish AMD made a chip twice as big as this with the same specs, basically a 250 or 300w card that offers similar to GTX 1080 performance (or slightly slower), and they can sell it for $349 or $399.

That will be a super winner for high end as well.

Let's be fair guys and the 480 is a good price and the 1080 isn't. We all know that but different markets, so comparing is pointless. And with the state of SLI/CF.... Who really wants to run that?
