Radeon RX480 4GB can be flashed to 8GB version.

On the PCPerspective video, they said AMD only made one reference PCB design so they could get through validation faster. That’s why the 4GB and 8GB cards are the same.

or they couldn't afford to make 2

Lol Gregster happy to pay near £700 for the GTX 980 replacement, but £60 over a 4GB RX480 is too much :P pmsl

lol

Come on man, 60 quid is a good amount for going out for a few beers lol. Who wouldn't want to do that? :p
I need more then a few beers to get over the amount I spent in the last month on a Asus 34",GTX 1080,G900, few hundred on games etc :
( and now looking at upgrading CPU, motherboard, Ram, Mechanical Keyboard etc  )

It might be if I wanted or needed an upgrade.

That's the thing with buying and using cards, you get to see where the performance is at and it helps others see if it is a worthwhile upgrade and as I buy my own hardware, I can be completely unbiased with it. Sure I buy my GPUs to game with and my Youtube channel and it is something I really enjoy and most people seem to enjoy my vids, so win for me and a win for the viewer :)

I hear that brother. I built a new system as well and that chewed through all of my savings, so any penny saved now is a result. Mind you, I am glad I did the upgrade and really pleased with this 6850K, Asus X99-A II and Avexir 3000Mhz ram. Even the cooler (H115i) has really impressed me and it runs silent, which coming from a custom loop was nice.

pfft, you just dropped a few notches in my eyes .... who cares about a few beers when you can buy yet another GPU?

I am in catch 22 pal, I see how much my hardware costs and I need much beer to soften the blow :D

Lol at you lot, having a pop at Gregster, for wanting to be able to get extra performance for free, I can only assume that none of you run anything overclocked, or have ever flashed a bios to get more functionality out of a piece of hardware.

this makes no sense even from a production point of view.

Surely it would cost more to put that memory on every card which would cut the profit on the 4 gb cards. Since you've already paid the production cost then no one really cares if you flash the bios or not and use the 8 GB there. it just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Would be good to know if anyone with a 4 gb version can flash it to 8.

Rushed to production, not enough time to get a 4gb PCB validated.

it's all in good fun mate, don't take it too seriously, he clearly isn't!

All good Bru and I took it as tongue in cheek. Anyone not wanting to save 60 quid needs their head testing lol and regardless of what it is. A Gigabyte G1 gaming for £609 or a Gigabyte G1 Gaming for £669, I wouldn't buy the latter lol and neither would they.

^^

Looking forward to testing out this 4GB card, if I can unlock the other 4GB even better. This RX480 will end up in my boys PC and I'm about to clear out a load of GPU's.

MM bargains inbound :P

Haha, someone worried about £60 for the 8GB version over the 4GB but spends ££££££ on every high end Nvidia card might also need their head testing?! :P

Have you tried your RX480 yet? Do you like the card?
