Radeon RX480 4GB can be flashed to 8GB version.

Haha, someone worried about £60 for the 8GB version over the 4GB but spends ££££££ on every high end Nvidia card might also need their head testing?! :P

Have you tried your RX480 yet? Do you like the card?

I don't worry about it but like I said, a 60 quid saving I will never turn away. Yer tested it and not overly happy. Crashing in quite a few games for no apparent reason but it does a decent job for 1080P gaming when it didn't crash. New drivers coming which will address this issue apparently, so will wait till those are out for further testing.

Lol been paying Nv tax since ever since original Titan and suddenly £60 is a killer-ouch.

Take it you missed past AMD cards unlocking, there's only been 6950>70, 290>290X, Fury>FuryX?

Pesky AMD, you guys suck!:D

Oh please tell me this is true, I'll be buying a 4 gig to unlock for crossfire then. Even if I'd have to pick one up second hand in the next while now that they're not producing any "more".

Reminds me of the pny gtx 465 cards which were just gtx 470 cards with a different name on the box. I blagged two of them for a massive saving and just flashed the bios.

Again they needs to launch the 465 and they didn't have the boards ready so just sold everybody 470s instead :)

That's the thing with buying and using cards, you get to see where the performance is at and it helps others see if it is a worthwhile upgrade and as I buy my own hardware, I can be completely unbiased with it. Sure I buy my GPUs to game with and my Youtube channel and it is something I really enjoy and most people seem to enjoy my vids, so win for me and a win for the viewer :)

The 480 might interest me when the dust settles a bit and the nights draw in, always game more during the nine month British Winter. At the moment it doesn't seem like the 480 is wowing too many people, and there seems to be a power issue.

I wonder if you'd have been better off reviewing a non ref card like the 480 Nitro for example as most enthusiasts will buy non ref. Watched your review, good presentation, straight to the point, unlike many, so thumbs up for that.

Obviously the early review catches the worm though.

Yeah only jesting with ya, never turn down saving money, but we didn't know ab out thew 4GB unlock thing until after launch. That 8GB card is still cheap, like £220?

That's odd about the crashing, if it's the PCIe thing because that only seems to affect cheap motherboards. Decent motherboards cope ok from what I have read. Other GPU's exceed the PCIe spec thing as Gibbo pointed out, and have been fine on decent motherboards. Maybe it could be something else causing crash?

If it is that hopefully fix will sort if for you. Good to hear performance is ok, mine coming next week. Will have a play before put in boys PC :P

you missed the ATI 9500non pro unlock to 9700. Nvidia did have the 6800le to 6800gt unlock, but thats the only one i remember.

this is the first time i've known either company to lock memory , probably just did it to test two price points.

That's tragic really, The drivers should be out before the card so it releases stable, AMD pls

I hope this isn't true in honesty. What was the point of me paying £60 more for an 8GB card?

Even without the unlock possibility I don't see the point unless you're going Crossfire. It's an extra £60 which doesn't sound so bad until you realise it's on a £190 card and it makes damn near zero difference to performance.

If you want a single card that's going to run games well at the kind of resolutions where an 8GB card would shine you're not going to look at an RX 480.
