Radiohead

Well to be fair to Gilly he has a point (and unlike he stated, quite a popular one amongst many people I've spoken to over the years) if the style of music was to his taste in the earlier albums. I'm lucky to generally like the sorts of genres that RH pull their inspiration from for the more experimental stuff. I like a band that tries new stuff, still doesn't stop my GF stating that all RH stuff sounds the same?! Oh really? I came close to dumping her when she sad True Love Waits was ****.

I'm holding out for a top album (like In Rainbows), but wouldn't be surprised if it's a mish mash effort like TKOL once more. I'll be annoyed if it's less than 10 tracks after 5 years.

As a big fan of RH my patience has been wearing thin recently with the ****ing about, I thought they would have grown out of the cryptic nonsense by now, but they've got worse!

Kinda agree with you. Similarly to Muse, I wish they'd stop messing about wearing space suits and glitter and be the powerhouse that they once were, instead of producing cheese laced political lyrics left right and centre.

I don't dislike this album, but I don't love it either. Desert Island Disk and Burn the Witch my current favourites.

(huge Radiohead fan of years gone by, still wish they'd release a studio version of Big Boots!!!)

I didn't realise there were many that shared my opinion. I still listen to PH and Bends now, but don't bother with later stuff after initial listens. I loved those albums and was honestly disappointed they chose to go the way they did.

I equate them to a modern-day Pink Floyd. Many would see that as a compliment, and should you like PF then I guess it would be :)

Opposite for me. Ok Computer is when they got interesting and elevated above being a decent indie/rock band.
 
After about 10 or so listens, I am completely hooked. It's so easy to fly through it and it leaves you wanting to put it on again and again. Otherwordly.

Like Gilly, I probably love The Bends the most these days, but this is certainly up there.
 
OK computer is one of the greatest albums of all time in my opinion.

Just a shame they have since largely disappeared up Thom yorkes rear end.

The odd good song but mostly overly experimental, pretentious twiddly twaddle.

Such a shame :(

Only played this one once so far, so it may grow on me. King of limbs didn't though.

I would agree that OK Computer is possibly one of the greatest ever albums, still listen to it now after many years.

The songs are good on the new album but could definitely could do with reigning some of the experimental glitchy elements back in and let Thom Yorkes voice shine.

I find the vocals get drowned in the latest album even though its the same producer as OK Computer.

Still a good album though.
 
I will persevere with the new album. I never write an album off until I have heard it at least 10 times.

I just think Radiohead have lost sight of what made them great. They are too pretentious and experimental at the cost of actually recording good songs these days.

I do still think they have it in them to produce another masterpiece, they just need to haul themselves out of Mr Yorkes ring piece.
 
Did anyone catch peaky blinders last week? They played a Radiohead song in the background well it was definitely Thom yorke singing anyone know what song it was?

There isn't much experimental glitchy stuff at all on the new album. :confused:

Lots of lush, beautiful soundscapes and orchestral elements though.
 
They still drown out the vocals and there are definitely glitchy elements in there as well as the orchestral.

The vocals should be the centrepiece but they seem to play second fiddle to all the production around it which results in them getting lost.

Being experimental and evolving their sound is what makes Radiohead great.

If they had just knocked out 9 albums that all sounded the same, I wouldn't still be listening to them 20 years later.

They are the only band I listened to when I was 17 that I still listen to now.
 
This is one of the very few LP's that I like (well, love) each and every track. Its certainly the only Radiohead LP for which that's the case.

I tried ordering them, but to be honest its a bit silly as there is very little between them... all are 9+ IMHO and it a bloody masterpice.

Absolutely... and I never get the 'pretentious' accusations... to me they just seem to love to find new ways of working and creating; how boring would it be if they were just another rock band chucking out the same kind of stuff LP after LP.

To my ears there is nothing that wildly out-there with this release, and some elements are quite conventional... but, there's always a twist to make it interesting.

Weird, my faves so far are Glass Eyes, TLW, Present Tense and Daydreaming.

Anyone else thinks that Burn the Witch doesn't fit on the album? I reckon they should have slapped Spectre on there in place of it.
