Rafa deserves the chance to overachieve with Liverpool again

Thing is tho, if we get rid of Rafa, the spanish contingent will walk, imo Torres and Reina are more important to us in regards to the future, than Carra and Stevie.
I agree they're more important, Reina probably being the most important. However if we don't get 4th place, do you believe Torres will stay even if Rafa doesn't get the sack?

Agree. I'd argue Reina would be the hardest to replace as well. We haven't had a world class keeper for decades whereas we've always been blessed with great midfielders and strikers.

The only 2 clubs that can afford him are City and Real. It's all but certain that he won't join Real for obvious reasons and can you see him considering City?

He's made duff signings, He's had cash, In the past 3 years he has spent 60 million on three players, and numerous millions on others, he has a constant turn around of below average squad players and apart from the luckiest night in the history of football which he achieved with somebody else's signings he has managed to equal Houlliers best league finish ONCE despite spending many millions of pounds more.

I dont see how there is any other way of looking at it.

Now let that be the end of it!

Every night game at old trafford is the luckiest night in history.

Because I can't afford to rent a stealth bomber, fly over from Liverpool airport and cluster bomb the place :)

Chelsea could afford him too, if RA wanted him, and he wouldn't be a gamble like certain other big money signings.

RA certainly has enough money but whether you're realistically going to offer the £70m, £80m etc that it's going to cost to sign him is doubtful.

The Robinho transfer the other year showed you're not going to pay ott on players anymore and even in the days when you did, you never spent more than ~£30m.

I can't see Torres ever playing for another English team, however I can see him leaving for a big European club. OK its not going to be Real but someone will come up with a deal.

You've got to also factor in how Spain do in the world cup. If Torres pulls out another memorable performance then clubs will find funds for him.

Not sure that's the case there Barry. I think Chelsea have demonstrated that if a Marquee player is available they will spend in a sensible fashion. Weren't they going to dig deep for Kaka before he went to Madrid ?

As for Robhinio that's probably the best £32m that RA hasn't wasted going off current form and commitment.

As for Benitez, i'm hoping that on the back of these poor results, Hick's and Gillette offer him a 20 year extension to his contract, I think I have made my feelings known on Rafa in many a post before so a waste of time rehashing it now :)

When you're talking about spending upwards of £70m on a player, can that ever be done in a sensible fashion?

Chelsea were strongly linked with Kaka but ultimately they never agreed anything and Kaka ended up at Madrid for significantly less than what Torres would go for.

No but that assumes we live in a sensible world. If a club needs to sell a player to achieve a certain value then a deal will be done

Huh? I was talking about the buying club not Liverpool and their demands.

If Torres were to leave this summer (which I believe is unlikely regardless of CL football) then it will only be for similar money to what Ronaldo went for, which surely rulse out sensible clubs.

The journo who wrote that piece talks a lot of rubbish as he fails to mention the horrific signings and inefficiency in the market Benitez has demonstrated. His closing sentance, about giving him another chance, is about the only decent piece.
