That time of the year is upon as already. Are people going to partake this year? Have seen some advice from religious leaders advising those e.g. in the NHS to not fast this year.

Still going to try and I work in an office rather than the wards.

Hope everyone is well and safe :).

Yep I’ll be doing it but if it gets too much then I will stop especially in the situation we have.
Best not to take any major risks. But as I work from home, shut my office down a month ago...I should be ok. I don’t go out unless I need to ie shopping for food stuff etc.

There are a number of reasons why people shouldn't fast (e.g. periods, ill health, long distance travelling) so I assume they worry that people working in high exposure areas need their strength.

why fast ? just have a word and all is forgiven .. at least thats what a few people i know say ..
anyhow there is no one greater than oneself ....

dont understand why it would be a risk? [..]

Being deprived of food and water adversely affects many things, including endurance and decision-making ability. Things that medical workers particularly need during a pandemic. Which is more important? Obedience or people's lives? Most Islamic authorities allow exemptions for good reasons already and this is one of them.

Never understood fasting. Just sounds like a way to control the masses

Without the religions reasons behind it. Its a very good way to loose weight and clean the body out off the toxins.

Perfect for when you have weekend away drinking, eating kebabs and you feel bad lol.

But, do people who fast not just eat what ever they like in the evening?

Would your immune system not be in a weaker state? Ok for the tough young but it will severely compromise the elderly.

e: should have read "young"

Normally fasting doesn't include water though, Ramadan is definitely not good for the body.

Have a great Ramadan to the Muslim brothers and sisters on the forums, keep well!

I'm not religious, was raised a Christian but more agnostic these days but I was actually going to take part this year as someone I work with invited me to do so and I took her up on the offer. But with the office closed and no longer being able to go to their family home after and eat I wont be taking part. Maybe next year (she invited me as she noticed I eat at weird times at work and said I should try it, thought it was a lovely offer and took her up on it)

I think if you're in any vulnerable group like elderly like you said and also the pregnant, then you don't have to fully participate in order to stay a practising Muslim.
This really.
If you are old, have underlying health issues then you are exempt from fasting.
It’s really as simple as that, just people make it more complicated than it really is.

For instance if I don’t fast or miss out on a few then either I make it up when I can or just make a charity donation etc

The vast majority of the major cities out here in Saudi including where I live are still under 24hr Curfew so it's going to be very muted here compared to previous years which have been fantastic to see.
