Ramadan Mubarak

Common sense dictates:

1. you view a forum,
2. you click on a thread that you LIKE
3. ignore a thread that you do NOT like

Stockhausen, as has been said numerous times in this thread it's not about the religion, it's simply expressing goodwill to people who are going to embark on a difficult journey of self control - one which I think most of us agree (and my understanding is that the Islamic faith feels the same) the exercise in self restraint is a rewarding experience. ...
I am aware of what you think the OP's intention was in initiating this thread. However, few people can be stupid enough to believe that if they start a thread related to religion, their beliefs are not going to be questioned.

I have no problem with people starting threads claiming that blacks are inferior, people from the Asian sub-continent smell, homosexuals are intrinsically evil or that people from Poland shouldn't come to do jobs in this country that the indigenous people are too precious or idle to do. I have a significant problem when they kick up a fuss over having their ideas contested. Exactly the same applies to religion, especially a religion that consistently treats women as inferior, that thinks fasting during the working day is a good idea or that bacon is evil.

... People can't help themselves trolling in any thread related to religion.
For God's sake (sic) give up with this childish protestation that disagreeing with someone is trolling - you just make yourself look like a stupid, narrow minded bigot.

Not an entirely unreasonable question. If Muslims genuinely want people to see their religion in a better light, perhaps they could speak out publicly against some of its medieval beliefs and shameful apparent adherents.

First of all, thousands of Muslims speak out against violence every time it is perpetrated in the name of Islam, so I don't know what you're on about.

Second: What the hell has that got to do with "religious threads not being allowed on a forum"?

Third: This thread is about celebrating a religious holiday, and has nothing to do with the "point" you're making.

I'm a bit disappointed in myself for getting trolled. I give people the benefit of the doubt and assume they don't realise what they're doing and it turns out they do. I think I'll start RTMing and not replying.

Not sure if you're trolling more or if you're trying to be nice. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not that bothered really, just feel I've helped take the thread a bit further off course. Although in all fairness it's ended anyway, Ramadan has started and people have been wished well on it.

Von might as well close this thread, the people that want to wish people a happy Ramadam have done so and any attempt at debate is met with "this isn't a discussion topic" so it's not really serving any purpose now other than circular arguments.

You cant be that "special", can you?

So you can't critisise religion but it's fine to make light of people with learning difficulties, how does that work?

hahaha, good attemp. Try harder ;)

You can criticise religion - I very often do, however it's been made clear in the forum rules that a thread about something in particular shouldn't be taken off topic by religious trolling.

The thread isn't even about anything other than wishing people well when they go on a difficult ordeal.

So if someone at your office said "Not looking forward to Christmas this year, the whole family is coming over and I can't stand half of them. They'll spend the time making passive aggressive criticisms of me and questioning my worth all the while eating as much of my food and drink as they can"

Would your reply be

"Well I don't believe in Christmas and you're silly to do so"

Is that how classy you are?

The thing people are saying is though is that you can't debate because you'll just be bombarded with either people calling you a troll or people telling you to do one because this is a thread only for "People greeting each other".

Go and start a thread if you like... there's nothing stopping you. I'd suggest Speaker's Corner and put a bit of effort into it.
