Random 3D printing chatter

Will soon be welcoming printer No 12 to the family :). I'm a bit of a collector of old vintage printers, so on the way is a Makerbot thing-o-matic with automatic build plate.

That thing is awesome. Enjoy dude.

Have been playing with the Neje laser cutter/engraver. Callibrated the cutting settings for 3mm Birch plywood (so I thought anyway) and had a go greyscale image engraving. So far I managed to engrave an image of my dog that is too light and one that was too dark! I'm beginning to suspect the laser power drops off after running for an hour or so because both pictures failed to be cut out using settings that worked for a short trial run. I'm about to 3D print an air-assist bracket which will maybe help clearing smoke and ashes out the way. I also bought an upgrade G8 laser focus lens from the USA.

I don't think I'll sit through all 2hr 17min of it but will check out the firmware, sounds like some good upgrades.

He shows you in the video how to do it and if you have any problems,

I bust the screen on mine, so I am waiting for a new one :(

I would have bought a case :)

I used to able to design stuff, but not anymore.

Well first test print complete, at least I know it works :D

Did you have any issues building it?. Im waiting for mine to arrive, probably about a week away but a mate had one the other day and his z axis motor mount wouldnt align correctly which made the screw thread well out of alignment. He ended up sending it back

Got my Ender 3 today.

Tbh, I'm very impressed with the build quality. Cheap Shenzen electronics aren't usually nearly this well put together. Much better than I expected.

Quite fun building it actually....better than lego :P

Kicked off my first print, looks pretty decent so far!

May he bring your 3d printed endeavors much good fortune
Lets us hope :D

Besides trying to decipher the manual (seriously watch a YouTube tutorial to give you a headstart) it went together fairly well. When I first mounted the z axis stepper and rod it was anything but true, so I loosened the bracket on the stepper and waited until I'd fitted the X axis gantry before nipping them back up. But I feel this is more to do with the lack of support for the threaded rod rather than poorly aligned holes.

I'd suggest fitting everything you can loosely then tighten everything up once assembled.

One issue I do have though involved leveling the bed, I've got bugger all adjustment in the rear r/h corner. Almost like the spring is shorter than the others but I haven't dismantled it to be sure, I'll probably just replace them as I'll have to keep moving the printer as I can't just leave it out. Allegedly the yellow springs required less work.

Hopefully you'll have more luck than your friend :)

What are you printing? Out of curiosity. I'm now on my second just to use up the last of the freebie filament. Nowt fancy just a bell to wind up a loved one.

Get yourself a spray bottle of IPA (isopropylalcohol) and clean the bed between prints, and especially from new as there's often some crap on the surface. Really helps PLA to stick.

Finished first test print. Just made a little rabbit. Very impressed for <200 quid bit of kit.

What filament are you using?
I've looked on the forrest at some of the suggestions above but they're are lots of bad reviews on most oh them.
I'm looking for some white pla for when my printer arrives

Tecbear PLA from the rainforest. I don't have anything to compare it to, but worked nice once I put a brim on so it adhered.
