And further to my earlier USB3 comment. This also makes it sooo easy to update. Overwrite the OS on the sdcard with a newer version, modify a single line in a txt file on the card to tell it to use the usb and you're done. All your settings are preserved!
I copy everything under \\openelec\storage which is my entire USB stick. I probably only need \\openelec\storage\.kodi or even \\openelec\storage\.kodi\userdata.
Hi guys,
Looking into setting up a small Kodi box to use for streaming media and so on. Can't decide between a Pi 2 or the Amazon Fire TV.
Would I be right in saying that for a basic setup, I just need a Pi/Micro-Sd and a power cable?
I can use my phone as a remote and will use Ethernet for streaming.
If I wanted to make use of AirPlay through OSMC, do I need a bluetooth adapter or does it work through my home network?
A Pi 2, SD Card, Case and power cable come in at £47 at the rainforest, the Fire TV is on offer for £64....which too choose!
I want to use my in car Pi more, but it's a pain to shut down before I switch off the engine each time.
Trying to think of a way around this.
WTF you on about Tipsy? That's the UNC path for the samba shares that openelec serves. I never mentioned anything about that to you.
Shove FTV on??? Don't know what you mean by that?
Bring it over but not this weekend, the little one's birthday so got lots planned.
Hi guys,
Just got a Pi 2, looking to use it as a media centre type ordeal hopefully streaming films from my PC upstairs to the TV. Couple of things;
I put a 64GB Micro SD card in, along with a keyboard/mouse, 2A Samsung Tab charger and HDMI cable and the red + green LED were stuck on and I couldn't get anything to output. The SD card was formatted, any help?
Also, what's the best to use for the stuff I require - I heard OpenELEC is a good OS, or "Kodi" (used to be called XBMC?)
SD card just formatted or actually has something installed? The pi has no BIOS or anything to speak of so you won't get output without something on the card to boot from
OpenELEC is good, though "Kodi" (yes the renamed XBMC) is a piece of software rather than an OS in its own right... OpenELEC runs Kodi - the other main two alternatives are OSMC (previously "raspbmc") or Xbian... all have their pros and cons
