My 5v 2A power supply wouldn't, so I doubt it. I bought a 2.5A one from PiHut.

Wait, it wouldn't power a Pi3? What were you doing with it out of curiosity? I'm running mine off a 5V/2A USB hub just fine, but the only USB device I've got in it is a K&M reciever.

They reccomend using a 5V/2.5A PSU. For £5, why bother wasting your time testing ones that 'might' work. Just do it properly, once.

Pimoroni state that you only need the 2.5a charger if you are connecting a lot of extras to the pi3. They are only selling the 2a charger.

The only time you may need the 2.5A version is if you're using the Raspberry Pi 3 with a lot of power hungry USB or GPIO accessories.

This. The official FAQ says that under heavy stress the 3 draws an average of 0.85A, or a peak of 1.34A, so 2A should more than enough unless you've USB HDDs or GPIO LEDs plugged in or something like that.

That didn't stop me buying a 2.5A power supply just in case I ever need it, but 2A should be fine 99% of the time.

Pi + keyboard and remote, using PiHuts Pi2 power supply, didn't like it.

I got my Pi 3 from Pi Hut but it only came in a static bag no official packaging/box. Is this normal from Pi Hut?

A lot of places seem to be doing their own packaging. Pimoroni had it in an anti-static bag inside their usual sweet-shop bag, and RS had theirs inside a cardboard box. It seems like the Foundation just sent them out in the anti-static bags and told companies to do what they like with them.
