Other way is to edit your connection settings on the Pi, type in the static address that you want. Best to pick one outside the DHCP range.

It's hard wired with a ridiculously fast ethernet cable and connection, and I know run buffer mode 1, read factor 4, cache 0 settings and I'm certain it used to work fine with my Pi B.. My Jet Flash 3 suddenly stopped working, now I'm only using an SD card.

If you read on OpenELEC forums, they should that some SD cards have issues.
 
Hi,

Just got a PI2 last week. On openelec my Panasonic TV remote works with CEC straight out of the box, but OSMC it's not working. I want to stay with OSMC because I like what they are developing for it.

Is there anything I can do to get CEC support installed via SSH? I hate using my phone as a remote.

It should already be built in. CEC has worked for me with both OSMC and OpenELEC. Check through the settings on your TV/OSMC, my TV needed it explicitly enabling.

Laptop windows, pi OpenELEC.. I have a read but really doubt it's my SD card causing the issue.. Might follow a tutorial somewhere to create static IP every other day I have to reconfigure my Yatse app.

It's really not complicated at all... I don't have a Virgin hub but the instructions for any router will be something like:

1. In a browser go to the IP for your router's setup/configuration page. You'll have to google what the IP is for the superhub but as an example a lot of common routers I've had use 192.168.1.254

2. Somewhere in there will be a settings page/tab for DHCP or IP or Clients or basically somewhere that will give you a listing of the devices the router believes are currently connected (click around, you'll find it)

3. Work out which device is your pi (the host name which I think is usually "openELEC" ought to be a dead giveaway, or you can use the IP Yatse currently tells you it is to identify it) and then there will be an option or a box to tick for "fixed IP address" or to turn off "automatically assign IP" or something like "use this IP address" and a box for you to enter the IP you want it to have into (this part will depend on the router but there will be an option that does it)

Excellent mate, will do this later at home. Massive help if it works as easy as that, i remember looking into it a long time back on the Pi B and it was like going in to Putty typing 100s of commands in and it just blew my mind so i sacked it off :D
 
Just done the above and "reserved" the IP to openelec,
hopefully this cures the problem very simple thanks mate.


Also fixed the buffer issue with playing around with advancedsettings very happy now. Just hope it stops freezing or going black screen when idle for so long.. Checked power saving options and nothing is on.

Can anyone walk me through setting up my media library to show up on the B+ running OSMC?

Actually, it's just getting past the lock preferences when using smb share.

Yeah, Windows 7.
Have tried typing the IP address in windows explorer but it brings me up to a web page with an error.
Have also tried using SSH to no avail.
When I right click on my media files/folder to share it with the Pi, it doesnt come up.
When I try to use SMB on the Pi to add a source, it asks me for username and password.
 
I think to share from Windows to linux over Samba you will need to create some fake "credentials" for the linux client to use for accessing the drive... This tutorial summarises what you need to do fairly well: (though note that the details about setting up the mount on the linux side *should* be taken care of for you by OSMC, it'll just need you to give it the username you setup in Windows)

You won't need to create any additional users or logins. OSMC sees my shared folders, but then again so do all the other computers on the network. Going through the advanced sharing options above should solve it.
 
Longbow, do you give yourself read-only access?

I've always given all my normal users read-only access to all my music and videos.
 
Does a Pimoroni Unicorn HAT work if your using a USB DAC as fancy adding a light show when my Pi 2 is playing music

 
Super impressed at how well this box performs.

Bunged OSMC onto a 2GB MicroSD and it runs smooth as silk, had to change HDMI lead to get CEC working but that works a treat as well, there isn't as much lag between pressing a button and something happening like I've seen on some youtube videos.

It takes a while to add all my files to the library from my NAS and takes a bit to cache all the cover art and fanart.

I've tried numerous single, dual and quad core android boxes over the past few years but I am blown away at how good this is compared to how much it costs.

The only thing missing is HEVC hardware decoding but it is understandable why it's not there.
 
cant figure out why my Pi turns its self off after a couple of days being idle, when the power settings look fine and my Pi supply is one specifically for Pi2
 
My pi2 keeps crashing... I'm using an image of the my original pi's SD card, it was transfered onto a class 4 microsd card, but I've tried a class UHS microsd card too.

I've just beefed up the power supply from a blackberry 700mah to Apple 2100mah one and it's the just the same.

It's fully updated and was working fine on the orginal pi for months on at a time, now it bombs out after a few hours.

I might have to bite the bullet and rebuild the server from a flat image but there's quite a few services running on it. :/
