RC cars

I'm not planning on racing as such, just for a bit of fun etc. I didn't really have a budget as such but figure up to £500 for the car and then extras on top if I can get something decent for less all good :)

Personally I wouldn't spend that sort of money on a big truck. They are horribly over-priced for what they are and being lots of plastic and fast to the point of uncontrollable, you'll be ripping corners off it without much effort.

If you're heart set on one I'd still go 2nd hand. You won't take a bath if you get bored and sell up.

I think I remember someone running a Jato a while back. There's a lad running one at the moment and it's tyres just don't work on tarmac. Another lad has just bought a Vattera rally car - it's not cheap IMO but sticks well and is agile enough to move around - I ran a Losi X 10 rally car for a bit and it was too heavy and hard to rotate. The BSR Bashers work well at our place but they aren't made anymore so it's ebay only I think.

Our outdoor track is just the other side of the roundabout to Carew market. We usually meet on the weekends there when the weather is better. It's spot on for 1/10 but not wide enough for 1/8 or 1/5.

Pop down one Wednesday, see if you get the taste. :)

If you're racing, probably about 5-10 tanks or when track conditions call for it.

If you're just bashing, the shock oil will last for a long time and diff oil will probably be OK for about 40-50 tanks.

Thanks im just bashing at the moment ill probably change the oils at somepoint next week anyway when i upgrade the servos mine had a runaway thanks to the throttle servo seizing whilst giving it some beans down a straight on a track

Guys I'm popping over to model sport tomorrow, just checking 'Assembly Type: Un-Assembled (Kit)' is literally building the whole thing? That is what I want, looking st the old school Tamiya's, mainly the Midnight Pumpkin, my little boy will love building it with me and hopefully won't be as scared as he is with my drone!

When I raced 1/8 rallycross I used two or three balloon necks around the servo horn and engine body. Pulls the throttle closed if you lose signal. May not have help with seized servo but just a tip anyway.

If it's a kit then should be just a kit. Tamiya ready built have an XB prefix usually. Modelsport shop is a bit of a let down from want it was. Just saying in case you've not been. Although nice for your lad to carry kit out the shop. Better memory than it rocking up in the post.

I'm hoping to get the HPI RS4 Sport 3 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 5 when it comes back into stock - anyone know what's with the long lead times for HPI cars? Anyone got experience of using HPI and can comment on durability/reliability?

Are there any accessories I should be buying straight off? I would like recommendations for spare NiMH battery pack and fast charger if anyone can advise.

Given HPI's Europe / UK distributor went under and there is still a question mark over the future of the parent company, I would be cautious about purchasing anything from them and expecting spares availability.

What ever happens, don't buy from apex models though as most of their stock is supplier based and not in physical stock even if it says it is.

Hi guys as mentioned I went to modelsport and walked out with a lunchbox. Had fun building it up with my little boy and finished it tonight.

Problem is the camber is well out on the front and the thing can barely drive in a straight line. I followed the instructions correctly which maybe my problem! Not sure what I should alter, it's almost like the suspension forks are too long are pushing the cars wheels too far down. Hard to explain. Any ideas?

I've got an issue with my HPI Firestorm. It's not turning right like it does left, it's like there's not enough travel in the servo. I've reset the servo centre and removed the save. If I lift the car up or place it on a small box and test left/right, right is juddering like the servo doesn't have the reach.

I've stripped the front end, since i cracked the bulkhead, and re-assembled but it's still not right. I've also reset the profile on the Spektrum - but it's not corrected itself.

Is the servo on it's way out?

Can anyone recommend anything cheap and cheerful? Second hand is fine. After something mainly for nostalgia, used to have a Tamiya Madcap back in the day that I loved. It will probably get whizzed about a bit and then not used that often.

How cheap? You can get some good bargains on eBay but I often find they need parts replacing which brings the price up and on older kits out of production parts can be expensive.

Loads of the Tamiya have been re released for that nostalgia vibe.

Also some really decent non Tamiya ready to run models about too and modelsport is a safe bet .

A tamiya lunchbox is always a good bet.

Not sure really. Maybe £100.. can spend more if it's worth it. What's good to look out for on eBay? I'll have a look at the tamiya re-releases.
