RC cars

Guys what do you think about

Carisma M48S Porsche 959

Being a complete noob is this a good car and decent model?

Depends what you want to do with it. If it's to bash and mess about, should be fine. If it might be a spring board into something more serious, I.e. racing. Then might not be ideal starter car.

Guy has one at my club and our surface isn't great and the Carisma looks a bit pants but that is compared to race kits.

When you say looks pa.ts is that the model itself or the performance on the surface at your club?

Tbh most stuff looks pants against race kit in fairness. Its like a stock clio sport against a fully race prepped clio cup car on track...no contest! but 5x the money

My uprated traxxas rustler was blown away vy loads of stuff at local club event I went to, but it owes £170 and is SO much to blast around my local woods with and I know if I run out of talent its easy and cheap enough to fix

If you want to race an RC for fun the carisma is fine, it seems from.what you are saying you have a budget to stick to and for £160 for a fun half decently kitted model I don't know.what else would come close

Been playing around with the idea of getting a nitro truggy seen a few at the local track they look cool and looks like they can take a good beating

Priced up a kit and the cost was around a £1000 so was thinking about getting an rtr at the moment I've got my eye on a kyosho inferno I've got some spare servos that are rated at 20kg torque as the rtr comes with 11kg rated servos

If you want to race, start with a race spec kit from a race brand to start with. It works out cheaper than trying to upgrade a basher/entry level kit. Often you can't ever upgrade entry kits from the mediocre / ready to run brands to race/club level to compete with race kits.

The exceptions are Tamiya which often have stock club races for their different kit classes or historic races for reissues.

If you want to bash and mess about, the most important factor to consider is spares availability and brand support in the UK. The Carisma is low end but supported for spares.

Why not buy brushless? At that sort of money a Traxxas X Maxx 8s 1/5th scale will be much more fun and capable. Also a lot quieter and easier to find places to run it.

Not sure if the HSP Bazooka is still being made. They were started by people who worked at Kyosho and had the blueprints. The Bazooka is pretty much a 1-1 Kyosho 777; solid as a tank.

Link to HSP website, seems they still do the Bazooka and truggies.

Here is a couple of vids of mine from years ago.

Having had an absence from the hobby for the past six years, I am yearning to buy something inexpensive, cheap and brushless. I'm currently torn between the Savage XS Flux and the Firestorm Flux. Having owned various nitro models in the past, including a Savage X4.6 and Jato, the thought of owning a high performance electric model seems much more appealing than going back to Nitro ;)

I have to say nitro never really floated my boat. I would really like a traxxas rustler vxl if funds ever allow. My gen 1 with xl5 upgrades is a brilliant, hard as nails truck

rustlers are bobbin's, had one hopped up to the max, proline trenchers all around. The front is too light and constantly pulled wheelies thus making it hard to steer.

I can remember when the Rustler VXL came first came out. 60 MPH out of the box! A friend of mine ran a Mini E-Revo VXL for a while. The performance (and speed) was insane, to the point of it being difficult to control.

My brother the jammy git won a traxxas summit at release with one of the uk rc car mags....that is an absolute monster!!! And I love it

Soooo much money though, totally out of my budget

Can anyone point me to a used full kit somewhere, either petrol or battery don't really care.

Not had an rc toy since I was a kid so would like something just to entertain me for a few hours. Got a whole farm here including lots of grassland, tracks, quaries, etc so looking for something quite durable.

I don't want to spend hours learning all about what parts go with what yet, just something with all the kit, relatively durable that is quite simple to repair when I smash it up.

Can I get something fun for £200-250?

Any recommendations on something durable in kit form? Building it would be half the fun...or do.the kit form ones actually cost more?

I had a nitro buggy about 15-20 years ago, think it was a Sand Master but it had a big spoiler on the back, not a roll cage. It didn't last very long, the driveshafts kept popping out. Think the gravel yard was too rough for it.

Actually quite liked the smell of the fumes! But an electric would be fine now I think

So probably a truck style one

This is my current rig I've been running since this February.

8S X-Maxx.

I've upgraded quite a lot on her with still more mods to do.

Half the fun is upgrading! lol

Excellent truck, handles very well for it's size a takes a good beating and just comes back for more. Built like a tank.

Power is bonkers on 8S, she tops out at 55mph with my current gearing which is plenty fast enough!

Its funny...I was only interested in nitro years ago, for the noise mainly, but I quite like the noise of electrics now. Also no fluids to spill!

Is that 55mph actual speed?
