I have a custom Traxxas Mini E-Revo, loads of mods including a 540 motor. Can easily set the car up to do 100+mph and still do backflips. Still goes through diffs for fun though just too much torque using 3s so i mostly run with 2s.

Damn it this has made me want another rc car now!,had a couple in the past can't remember what they where one was a nitro 2 speed was pretty quick only ever had flat tarmac racing type cars always fancied a stadium truck or buggy to go off road and do jumps and stuff, and never had electric so quite fancy a electric off road type rc car any recommendations I see people recommend the traxxas rustler,what do u guys recommend and what models? Do u need special chargers for the batteries? Been awhile so would be nice to get some current advice on what's good these days.

Used to fly rc planes for a few years that was great fun too.

The HPI Firestorm like I have, and I think a Traxxas one too, have waterproof electrics, which is quite an attractive feature if you want to do daft stuff with them.

Big big coincidence! I just came into this thread to scroll to the bottom and post up about my Tamiya Monster Beetle that I have from when I was a kid. I was scrolling and suddenly went over your post.

Mine is in bits at the moment but i'm thinking of getting it up and running again. I haven't had a proper look at what's broken but I know everything will be there, probably just screw holes broken, etc. It's a standard one, no upgrades.

If I have any problems, would you be able to help me out with where to get parts, etc? I'm not very clued up with RC cars these days.

Fortunately!, the chassis is almost identical to the re release frog, so you can get most sparesnquite easily.

Expect lots of bits to be brittle and snap easily. Hub carriers, servo saver, body mounts, and differential all needed replacing on mine after its first drive.

To put morepower through the gearbox you need to do an 'oldfrogshot' modification.

Throw the manual speed controller away and go digital. I'd also recommend a digital tx and lipo batteries.

I have a few lol.

Tamiya;
M-03 Mini
TL-01 Focus
TA-02-03 MK1 Escort
Lunchbox
Super Sabre
XR-311
Sandscorcher
Baja Champ.

The rest;
Traxxas Rustler
E-Revo
Original 2001 Emaxx
Axial SCX10 Dingo
MBX6 Tekno E-conversion
Shumacher Cougar SV2

Nitro;
Mardave Marauder
Mugen MBX6T
MBX7

Most of them are projects, the rest get run on the odd occasion. The MBX7 gets used week in, week out due to being the racer.

Finally got my Traxxas Jato 3.3 fixed. Friend at work took it apart and fixed the clutch and brakes. I had to opportunity to get some speed out of it and got this.........

I have to say Im very, very happy with it. And its not at full speed :)

I have lots :)

Clodbuster

jeeze this brings back memories... that name just sparked something, I remember that car from when I was 12 or 13 - I'd had an RC car from Argos for Christmas, kid a few doors down had a tamiya midnight pumpkin, put my car to shame - couple of months later and a combination of birthday money + savings I decided to get myself a 'proper' RC car to build - went to a hobby shop and remember being in awe of this huge monster truck - clodbuster was out of my budget, the midnight pumpkin was doable though I didn't want the same car as my mate - ended up buying a bearhawk which they had quite reasonably priced

Great thread.
I have been into RC since School age, used to race 1/10 electric off road at clubs in my area years back with Tamiya Avante/boomerang/hotshot/hotshot2/Hornet etc. etc. Haven’t driven competitively for years though,

I still very much enjoy the hobby.

OH loves it too, her's is the Lunchbox (she built it too).
So much fun.

I've got the nitro version of the HPI Bullet MT.

Really should fire it up sometime soon, kept having issues with the dogbone style driveshaft falling out though.

I'm currently after a couple of Tamiya cars that I used to race.

Boomerang (nothing special but it was the "Standard class" car I had great results with)
Avante (The daddy)

Both are fetching pretty strong money though right now.
