thinking of grabbing a hornet next, also managed to get 2 batterys through the ftx surge buggy with not a single thing breaking, i was thrashing the hell out of it earlier and it survived, it seems a lot more robust now with a few alloy hop ups :)

dad spent half the day chilling in the garden getting the hoboa hyper tt sorted, the mini st has a seized engine and it shares parts so we had a wee shot of the hyper tt earlier, didnt take much to get it started either after it had been sitting for years.

am i right in thinking a hornet is just a hopped up grass hopper?

got so much spare radio gear etc kicking about i figure i might as well use some on tamiya kits :)

Thought about a Schumacher Top Cat classic? I want something from my youth and torn between that or an RC10 at the moment!

I haven't built one but I'm told the Top Cat (and XLS) re-releases are rubbish builds. Re re RC10 is discontinued and gone up in price a fair bit.

Since the restrictions, I've refurbished a Tamiya Vanquish. Built a Tamiya TRF201 from spares (only had to buy shocks and a new shell). Partly built an Associated B74 (my 2nd 74 and my "bling" car :) ) and going to start on a refurb of a Yokomo MR4BX

had a look at dads surge monster truck earlier as it wasn't putting down any power to the back, turns out one of the 4 diff gears is knackered (reckon the diff has been slack since the start) so i ordered more and on a better note dad should be receiving a hyper vs 4s the morn :D

im split on getting a kyosho monster tracker 2 or the hornet for the garden and at some point ill be getting a leccy hyper as well, also thrashed the hell out of the grass hopper for over an hour earlier and it's motor etc stays nice and cool during long run times :)

monster tracker 2 was out of stock and i looked around and could see 7 buggies, 2 nitro and 5 leccy in my room.

figured i have enough buggies and took a punt on one of these https://www.modelsport.co.uk/corall...truck-1-10-brushed-rtr/rc-car-products/444076 it sounds pretty well specced for a cheapo basher and no batterys or charger, so all the money is going in the truck.

ill see how i get on with it as it sounds pretty good for the price, dads new hyper vs 4s is mental had 2 shots of it now and just wow, it is actually quieter than some of my 10 scale leccys while having insane power :D

edit : broke a dog bone on the surge buggy and the other 3 are looking wobbly, ordered 2 hop up ones, never even crashed it lol

grasshopper has been getting thrashed about twice today for long run times and nothing broken :p

i am tempted to race a 6000kv rustler v dads new hyper leccy :D we are unsure what is faster and after the lock down is lifted he wants to race my hyper 7 black :)

i guess his leccy will destroy my nitro but we will have fun messing about :)

Curious how that Corally performs? The brushless version seems quite a bit more money and from videos I have, seen does constant wheelies on 3S. Possibly fun initially but probably a bit tedious when you actually want to drive it properly.

ill let you know how it is when i get it on monday, i will only be running 2s though all my 3s 10 scale shennanigans are behind me :)

heres a good vid of the brushed one on 2s straight out the box :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rkJ5MBs7rA

edit : same guy whacked in a castle brushless system and abused it on a golf course, he only broke the back bumper lol

well that was a nice surprise today as the team corally triton showed up a few days early :D

it seems to be a very well built truck and gets a decent wee turn of speed on a 2s lipo and aye it also likes to wheely but nothing to mad on the 2s battery, the only draw back i have noticed so far is the turning circle, it turns like a bathub lol.

that could be due to the servo saver that it comes with and something ill look into, easliy fits a hardcase 2s 5000 mah lipo and i noticed all the screws are hex ones, also the electronics are water resistant so ill be using it in the snow if we ever get any.

overall im pretty impressed with it for the money and happy with it also had a few silly crashes in the garden and not a single bit of damage :)

edit: the other night we had both hoppers going about :)

the tin for spray paint on mine says candy lime green, still got some left :)

heres some picks of my team corally triton and dads monster tracker 2 in the garden earlier, both running on 2s and it was a bit wet :)

we had a good laugh faffing about with them, i tried a half assed ramp but the surface on the ramp bit was to smooth so no traction and it got quickly dissasembled and the garden is starting to look like a mud pit :)

edit:
i softened the front shocks on the corally with some tamiya soft shock oil i had left over from a sandviper kit i bought as spares and eased the threaded shocks up a wee bit to make it nice and soft on the front, really handling a lot better now, yeh it leans into corners like a pro now instead of been rigid and im really impressed with it, lot of truck for the money :)

Any recommendations for a 5 year old's birthday? Something that can take a fair bit of punishment? Or would i be better sticking to a toy of some kind rather than these higher end models. Looking to spend less than £100.

How do the Corally and Kyosho compare speed and build quality wise?

the corally is the clear winner spec wise and i think build quality/design, both seem pretty robust but the kyosho definately turns better and is a bit quicker of the mark but slower speed wise.

if i recall the kyosho has a 22 turn 540 motor while the corally has a 15 turn 550 motor and can take up to 3s batterys.

dad is impressed with my triton and i think he is gonna end up buying the brushless one lol

we have noticed the gear meshing is overly tight on the kyosho and it only has fixed mounting holes for the motor, the motor runs hot and it doesnt free roll very well, other than that the kyosho is a decent truck.

heres some info on the corally company https://corally.com/About-Us/

edit : dad is seriously thinking of this bad boy :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMtoyX5jk-A&t=1

only thing i can really think of is a tamiya grass hopper but its way out of budget if you need a battery and charger plus servo and radio gear as well :( https://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-grasshopper/rc-car-products/23142

edit: im pretty drunk now but how about a rock crawler ready to run, their so slow they can't do much damage to any thing.

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/ftx-ravine-1-10-rtr-m-o-a-rock-buggy-crawler/rc-car-products/435354

i would be impressed with that if i was 5 or this much smaller one https://www.modelsport.co.uk/axial-scx24-deadbolt-rock-crawler-rtr-red/rc-car-products/446252 :)

only problem is lithium batterys and a 5 year old :(

edit : first one i linked has a vid of kids using them under supervision. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCHmw6O1KAY

Agree with the rock crawler idea as I dont think a 5 year old is going to have enough coordination for anything moving faster than walking pace. The 1/24 Deadbolt is fantastic (have one myself) but agree with the LiPo sentiment but you can get one of these https://www.modelsport.co.uk/carism...micro-scale-truck-blue/rc-car-products/434546 which comes with an easier to maintain NiMh battery.

i was 5 when i had turns of dads grasshopper and had no crashes :p

Ha ha admittedly I don't have children and was basing it on a 10 year old nephew that I bought a Funtek DT12.

That Kronos 6S looks insane! Shame the tyres balloon so much but I guess that is common when you start getting to the really quick stuff.
