Only mod I have done is upgrade the shocks, its a common upgrade I do on the ones I have bought. Its a tough little thing but its scraped all over the body shell and the front "bumper" has seen some wear but it still goes. I could do with a new body shell. I was all set to go take them to a couple of dirt tracks nearby but then the virus hit. When things calm down a bit I think I will go take them.

just wow i forgot how twitchy the sand viper is on a super 17 thunder tiger motor, all brushed but mad :D

had it running about the car park infront of my house earlier, it was mad but comfortable speed :)

got a xl-5 esc in it on 2s, got dad too put a 550 12 turn motor into his monstor tracker 2 earlier and i think he likes it :)

the tracker 2 keeps binding but the 550 12 turn motor is running cooler than the 540 22 turn and it goes a bit faster than my triton :)


changed the servo saver on my triton for a tamiya one (only had to modify it slightly) :)

also my sandviper goes like a gimped rc 10, i grew up seeing a gold tub rc 10 :)

dad seen my viper earlier and he said it looks like the rc 10 lol

Hi,

I need to replace the antenna wire that comes out of my HPI receiver as it has lost all length. I used to be into RC 25 years ago and pretty sure its just a case of opening the case up and soldering the new wire onto the board? However I am unsure on where to get said cable? Searching on RC shop sites is only coming up with the antenna tubes. Can someone point me to something that would work?

on a better note i was working on my thunder tiger xxb in the garden when a delivery came from a super market, the guy went to mum thats some fun stuff your sons doing there, turns out he had recently built a tamiya monster beetle and we had a wee convo going about models and after i got it going again one of the neighbours was really interested :)

it is awesome to get positive stuff said about my models :)

less positive note is my thunder tiger xxt is kinda stripped down and hard to get parts for so im knicking parts of that for its buggy version :P

Getting super excited now. Researching the completion kit I'm going to buy.

Any recommendations welcome re servos, engine, esu and rc stuff.

does any one know a source for discontinued thunder tiger models for spares?

or any other models spares, eg something like a rear hub carrier for a xxt/xxb

i also have the sparrow hawk drifter but havent used it much so it is intact, i am yet too try the brushless system i put in it recently :)

looks like JST-PH 4pin

I googled "rc connector 4pin" :p

it seems the come in different mm sizes 1.0mm 1.5mm 2.0mm 2.5mm etc I'd imagine that is the gap between the pins?

seems there is a version of the same camera with RCA plugs btw
 
dad had a brushless triton delivered the other day,,,,, it is insane, it is very fast very fast on a 2s lipo, way too much power, you need to to use tight throttle control to get it to go to full speed with no wheelies, it is fun :D

dads triton is mad, insane speed, pretty sure it faster than the 4.6 trophy engine on a savage 3.5, much faster, im wondering if i should buy a brushless one and use my brushed one for spares it is that mad :D


got my thunder tiger xxt running as well earlier , it has all 4 hyper mini st shocks on it and the back supsension arms reveresd :D

i thinik i blunted dads hack saw making suspenion arm shafts the right length. it lives again :D

gonna whack in the 4300 kv motor once i sort out a few niggles :)

had fun in the car park just out side our house earlier, 2 tamiya tt-01's going about, i had a brushed 21 turn motor and dad had a 17 turn.

my motor brushes went trying to keep up with dad :( soon had it going again with a 17 turn brushed motor :)

gonna have to spend 3 quid on brushes now to fix the 21 turn motor lol, tt-01 models are nuts on 17 turn motors :D

edit: if you dont mind the sheer noise and extra tinkering involved grab a hyper 7 with a nitro engine :)

Hey folks. Any ideas on a decent beginner RC buggy to get? My partners son has a bit of the lockdown blues so figured getting something that could be tinkered with and take to the local park to race around on the grass and tarmac would be fun for him (and me). Used to have a petrol 306 rally car back in the day, but I was rather young and my father did most of the leg work.

Is electric the way to go these days? Want something with a bit of speed, preferably under 150 in case he doesn’t enjoy it as much as I think he will.

Well so far so good, nothing broken, this little thing can handle a proper bashing although as others have mentioned its a little too fast for my lad. If he concentrates its ok but if not it can go flying off in all directions. :D

However problem solved, I've managed to pick up a a959 (non B with the 380 motor) from someone selling them locally for £30 new. It's perfect for him, just that little bit slower that makes it more controllable. Also with them being the same base model parts are interchangeable and spares are super cheap.
