RC cars

This thread has reminded me I need a new battery.

The thing with lipo batteries is I don't like keeping them in the house, but by keeping them in the garage they get cold and don't last.

The ones I have are from 2020 and pretty much dead.

I guess that is 5 years.

Take a look at Bat-Safe. I also hate having lipos in the house and I even reload my own ammo with multiple containers of gun powder in the house but the batteries concern me more. I have two Bat-Safes I use which are fairly expensive but good for piece of mind.

Haha funnily enough I also reload my own ammunition and like you I don't think anything about leaving the powder or primers in the house.

I'll take a look cheers.

What would you buy if you got back in to it? There’s a new Kraton EXB announce a few weeks back with stock due in March.

Nah I'm not buying any more cars.

I have an FTX Outlaw although thats more or less retired, a Maverick Strada DT which I changed out the motor and speed controller for a brushless 2s, and a Hobao Hyper VS the one with the upgraded ESC so it can take 6s , although I only run it on 4s its fast enough.

The Hobao is lightning fast and pretty much indestructable, and the Maverick Strada DT is surprisingly fun off road and has been really reliable as well.

Both my "voltz" hardcase 2s Lipos are dead and I have a gens ace 4s hardcase I'm not sure about, but I am guessing that's not in the best of health either, and my kid has been asking me for ages when we are going out to play with them again.

A quick google suggests the batteries only last a few years anyway, so maybe it isnt necesarily the cold that got them, but I am probably going to get one of those boxes you mentioned.

I've just looked at the new Kraton EXB, that looks amazing so may pick one up in time for the better weather
Recommend it, mine has been flawless and great fun and the new version gives you even more punch due to a firmware update on the ESC but also some more improvements with the front hubs etc.

Have you got the new version now? the one in the picture was the previous version.

I had the version in the photo (but non EXB version at the time) got EXB version after that. Thought it was a great car but the rear wing mount kept breaking and was a pain to fix. Replaces that with the RPM version and that lasted.
I see on the new version though they have change the design to a 1 piece so hopefully that's better.

I have the EXB V2 RTR from last year that has the updated wing mount but not the latest one that was just announced last week with the clipless body and a few other bits. I will update mine with a few of the other changes from the new one; battery strap, higher side pods, and front hubs. (I’ve already put on the new rear skid) and I’ll eventually change the body to clipless if it proves to be decent and not keep falling off. I’ve also added the Arrma Ali diff cases to my V2 (they also don’t come with the new one)

im getting super tempted by a micro b, i have a mini b that i converted to brushless and run about the car park out side :)

the micro b would be brilliant for my back garden or indoors to annoy my cats lol

After many many years of not owning an RC car, after being heavily involved in it as a hobby, I've bought this with a view of getting in to 2wd racing.

It seemed a good deal, what do you guys make of it?

I will upgrade the radio pretty pronto, to get something a bit more customisable as well as shorten any excess cabling to tidy it up a bit.

I understand it's a cheap motor/ESC combo but should get me going and as I understand it the base buggy is good to work with.

Only issue I can see is the associated shocks have been swapped out for some cheapo chinese items. The B6 shocks are a good £60 2nd hand, thats the main reason its a good price.

The ESC is good, the motor is not so much.

I'm hoping as the big bore shocks are "new" the original small bore shocks will be included - as I assume original Associated 12mm bore will be better than knock off 13mm bore. If they're not, I'm not too worried as they'll see me through a season. If I enjoy it, I'll invest in a new buggy (already eyeing up the RC10B7D, and I'll be able to transfer electronics to it)

I would ditch that motor once you've got a few race meetings under your belt. Looks like the electrics are velcrod into the car, I would swap this for servo tape.

Fingers crossed the original shocks are in the box - those blue ones will probably be a bit leaky and tough to setup.

If it is a B6D - it will have a ball diff, if you end up racing on carpet or grippy astro then a gear diff might be worth looking at.

Still a lot of car for the money! Welcome back to the hobby!

You guys called it, the shocks are an issue :D

Seems they're slightly too long, and allow the dog bone to come out when at full extension - need to rebuild them to add an internal spacer to stop them hitting max extension to solve. Still seems a lot of car for the money, so can't complain too much.

After buying a Kraton v6 in December, I am getting awfully tempted to pull the trigger on a Tekno MT410 2.0. Soooo much money though.

Bought our 5 year old son a secondhand, slightly upgraded Rival MT10 for Xmas. Despite having no experience fixing RCs, I’ve become quite skilled at repairing it weekly! Last night I had to install a M2C carbon motor plate after he bent the stock one on Saturday. Damn thing takes one hell of a beating.

Need some advice... I've never owned a Kyosho before and on the verge of purchasing the Optima Mid 2022 or Koswork Edition however, unsure whether to splash the extra cash on this variant yet? Anyway watched a few video reviews on YouTube and the whole package quality looks outstanding! Anyone own or had hands on experience with these kits?

Where do people buy the cars these days?

The two shops I went to, one in Ashton under Lyne, and the other in Oldham, have closed.

They were dedicated shops, especially the Oldham one as the guy was helping run the Oldham RC club.

Are there dedicated shops still, or is there some good online place's people go to?

I just use modelsport, or eBay.

Modelsport are good.
