i still maintain the R9 290 was one of the best GPU's i've ever had, on the other side i like the 2070 Super i have now just as much.

Its all good stuff.

Ah I see someone still can't handle some simple facts, take of the rose tinted glasses chap  When you have owned both and in my case FAR more of amd hardware (literally have owned 2 nvidia gpus in my entire time of pc gaming, meanwhile have owned several amd gpus, of the top of my head and the ones which were my favourites: 3850, 4850, 7850, 290x and the vega 56 before going back to nvidia with the 3080, probably owned far more amd gpus than most people here tbh) you will know first hand what said companies products weaknesses/problems are better than people who don't own the gpus or/and are amd fans/employees, hence why any "neutral" person will also agree and state the same, much like how various people state how nvidia can demand a bit of a premium over amd as backed up by HUB recent poll and even by both Steve and Tim, but sorry I keep forgetting mindshare and "nvidians" and all that usual nonsense spouted

I swear it's almost like nvidia/Jenson done some people over bad

They are not late because they decided on a announcement date that differs from someone you favor. It's like saying your dinner is late when the table in front of you receives their food because they ordered a bit earlier. It really gets petty saying that.

I seriously doubt they need your forgiveness. We shouldn't have such emotional dependencies with any company who provides a product or service. It's not emotionally/psychologically healthy. When there are so many good things to live for.

What difference does it really make when they decide to release a product? We've reach equilibrium, now, with the games out there. Every game I've played doesn't require a next gen gpu. We are at a point in PC gaming where we are not trying to catch up to software engines attempting to play games at an acceptable frame rate. Take the release of MW 2022. I now cap my frame rates to 160 FPS and can dominate the matches. I certainly don't "need" a 7900xtx at this point. That's just one example. But this has been my gaming experience for sometime now. And I am loving it. LOL.
;)

You can look at it whatever way you want, it doesn't change the fact that amd are launching "late" compared to their competition by 4+ weeks, early December indicates 1st or 2nd week of December, we have only just started November now and the 4090 has been on sale for what the past 2-3 weeks? 4080 16gb is launching this month? Doesn't matter what you think/say, they are both "competing" and it's a bit silly to be giving your competition time to swoop up sales especially at this time of year with black friday, cyber monday and xmas right around the corner......

As I have said many times before, which is backed up by my purchasing history, no emotional attachment here, I simply buy what is best for my needs at the time, it's not rocket science :)

You seem to think I am attacking AMD and stating this is a big **** up for me when I clearly stated in my posts:

Saying that I'm in no rush.
As said though I'm not buying ada anyway and not got any games where my 3080 is struggling with anyway so it doesn't impact me too much but still annoying to see amd not bringing the fight now, probably because they have even less stock than Nvidia.

It is merely an observation, same way I observe that amd/games are still lacking behind massively with FSR 2.1+ uptake but I suppose we also shouldn't be comparing uptake speed of FSR either as amds fsr also isn't competing with dlss, right.....

Again, just to reiterate..... like Troezar said and as I agreed with him, it's not an issue at all if AMD match/exceed nvidias offerings but if they are much the same or fall behind, then once again, it's just another case of amd playing catchup and to never truly have first place.

If RDNA 3 delivers in the areas important to me, I'm ready to purchase/pre-order, if not, no loss, I'll make do with my measly 10gb 3080 until next gen or big price drops on 4090/4080ti/4080 16gb

You've said daily for the past 2 yrs you were getting the 4080, what happened, isn't it faster than a 3090 for half the price anymore?:p

5080 is when it will be safe to upgrade :D

Either that or if rDNA 3 is as good as people are saying, maybe Nvidia will drop their prices and can just buy it instead of rDNA 3 ;) :p

I think many of us were planning to get a £700-800 4080 but nvidia decided to screw the pooch and gave us a £1300 4070 instead.

Now it's AMDs turn and they need to deliver proper 4080 performance "not 4070 16gb" for £700-800 if they want to win over some nvidia customers.

Boom. Some of the gang were even more optimistic thinking the 4070 was going to be the one...! #1015%

Lets not get ahead of ourselves though and go in to water walking. AMD have had many chances to capitalise so I think any sane person on here will not expect much. The benefit of having strong cards in our possession is that you can wait for months and if prices get slashed weigh up if the switch is worth it. The best change to UK people from AMD would be to appoint a couple of resellers so people can get the reference models drip fed at msrp.

The next couple of generations are going to beautiful be competitive and all round great for consumers.
The GPU space really could use more competition and a price shake-up, but aside from whatever cost savings going chiplet brings, a few things stand in the way of the cheaper GPUs of days of yore:
GPUs are huge chips since they are so parallel and scale well.
Process nodes are definitely not getting any cheaper.
Whatever we can say against Nvidia, they have not been content to drip-fed quad core cpus for years.
Competition and especially Nvidia not having an automatic 80% marketshare should mean lower prices, but we shouldn't expect miracles.

Still, Nvidia's margins dropping from 65% to 35%, for example, would save us consumers a fair bit!

Yup they are taking the **** but as pointed out, it's no surprise why they did what they have done with ada, ampere lineup pricing was beyond silly, I mean in whos right mind did it make sense to charge an additional £750 for the next card up when the performance difference is <15%

Sorry I forgot, 24gb vram and FC 6 makes up for that extra cost, right @TNA

What will be interesting to see is when ampere stock is gone, will nvidia drop ada prices substantially at some point next year....

2 more sleeps
:D

Yup!

One thing I'm hoping is that amd showcase some benchmarks of the heavier/more complex RT titles like cp, metro, dl 2 and don't just showcase titles with lesser RT like fc 6, RE village as if they do this, that will be a bit of a red flag for their RT improvements imo, much like how they glossed over RT with their RDNA 2 reveal. If the suggested rumours of them substantially improving their RT to match/exceed ampere are true then they should be showcasing the former RT titles to prove this as rdna 2 doesn't struggle too bad when the RT workload is light.

The silly bit was the 3090 costing £750 more, it should have been 1k tops or sold as a Titan complete with the drivers if they wanted £1400 for it.

Few understand.

 ;)

Agree though, the other funny thing was the 3080 12gb model coming out and costing £1100/1200+ too but apparently that was also worth the extra £650+ just to get an extra 2gb vram.....

I can see nvidia eventually introducing the 4080ti that will offer much the same performance as the 4090 and less vram but for a considerably cheaper price.

Lets hope for amds sake, they don't reduce the vram on the 7800X as well as upping the price.... :p

But in a way, I don't really mind the halo part being poor value.
+10% performance for +50% is not really a problem as such: milk the more-money-sense people to spread the fixed costs as long as more mainstream buyers get "good" value!

A theoretical 7900XTX 3Dx2 (dual stacks of 3D stacked cache), which gets ~10% more performance (and then only at 4K or even dual 4K VR) for a huge extra cost doesn't really bother me that much, as long as plain Navi 31's prices aren't crazy.

Let the whales pay for making 3D caching more mainstream!

If correct we're in for a treat
The last part is the most exciting "news" in GPUs for a long time.

Tldr?

In other news today, an investment company says both amd and Nvidia should be worried because Intel is going to overtake TSMC in having highest transistor density node by the end of next year.

Can you blame the fella? He once had a top end GPU, went on and on about all the vram he had, but in all that time the only game he played where that vram came handy was a substandard game called FC6.

To make things worse now people buying a 3080 Ti (that has 99% the performance of his card) for £575 which is almost a third the price he paid for his 3090.
