@Poneros There is a very big difference between playable and good/great fps for some people. Playable to me is what some other people would find great. Sadly I do not have the currency to support my delicate senses 100% :P

True, it's like going from need to want. The more you want the harder it will hurt, but needs are more easily satisfiable. People are adaptable anyway.

Take 7Days To Die as an example, even at 4k the graphics are about as bargain basement as you get but the gameplay is pretty compelling. I think its a better game over Death Stranding which looks gorgeous and is perfectly presented.... and I'm a self confessed graphics snob its been quite an eye opener tbh.
Don't you find that games with crappy graphics usually have really good gameplay and replay ability where as triple A games with the latest and greatest graphics look great but are usually regurgitated same old same old rubbish?

Something has to be in it ....I know its a diff league but look at Minecraft and how popular it is...HL1 or 2 I can play again and again and love them :) newer stuff visually is very pleasing but for what costs...>1k for GPU that will have all bells and whistles on on a 4k....will take lower graphic with better game play any day..

Nope.

If you're fine without the latest in terms of graphics, why buy expensive hardware and 4k displays?

I reject the rule of thumb claim that AAA games with good graphics have crap gameplay and games with older graphics have better gameplay and design.

Yes there are some games with good graphics that are bad, but that's not new there have always been those games every year.

And I have a very recent example that disproves the claim:

I just finished spending 300 hours playing the highly addicted Elden Ring, a AAA masterpiece with excellent gameplay and graphics. And I just started playing Diablo Immortal, a game with old graphics and absolutely garbage gameplay and design that has earned it a 0.8 out of 10 aggregate user score .

Does Diablo Immortal count though? It was originally designed for mobile with all the usual mobile mechanics, and was only ported to PC due to the backlash.

Personally, I see no correlation between graphics and gameplay at all. It varies too much.

I think there is a weak correlation between the two, in that AAA graphics require a large budget and you can't afford to take too many risks with gameplay. While a cheaper game can really experiment with gameplay, in the hopes of standing out.

They also need to be tight in the gameplay area and/or be artistically beautiful graphics wise to avoid being swamped by all the other games.

No because the slide does not specify at what wattage the measurement was taken so you can't assume because perf/watt is not a flat line it's a curve

True, and purely for observations sake i remember this being said when slides saying the same thing for RDNA2 started to appear.

Its probably not going to be like something Intel might do.

im going to turn that around to say what I find in developers with good gameplay are reluctant or unable to up their graphics to an expected lvl

im assuming these cards will be RDNA 3 ?

yes.

Yup.

If a 220w 4060 is going to outpace a 3080 then i'ts a good PPW increase at max power.

I would guess this is what AMD are also saying, although it could be construed as a vertical measurement of FPS at a set power in the performance curve haha.
