RDNA 3 rumours Q3/4 2022

I'll bite at £1,000, but anything over and I'll either wait (probably) or bend over and pay for a 4090. The 4090 is good, but it's not amazing and for that amount of money you really do want it to be amazing.
You won't get it.

Add VAT and FX.

899 + 20% is nearer £1100
999 is nearer £1200

So you're looking at those minimum plus scalper tax.

I always buy halo cards

So this card probably isn’t aimed at you. You are a Ferrari customer complaining that the latest Jaguar just doesn’t perform as you expect, never mind the price difference.

Is nvidia a generation ahead in RT at $1k? We have no idea because the only card they announced at that price got pulled.

The mid-range segment is going to get properly spicy!

To maintain the <2x RT performance scaling of we saw 3090Ti -> 4090, NVidia used a hell of a lot of transistors. It's unclear the exact transistor count of RT cores, but total transistor count was ~3x.

We've seen really poor uplift between 3080 -> 4080 16GB in RTX (based on NVidia slides), likely due to to the 4080 being a mere 46B transistors instead of the 4090s 75B. NV are relying heavily on DLSS3 for gains in RT in their upper midrange 4080, and who knows for the lower marget segments

How will RDNA3's RT performance scale to smaller dies vs. Ada? I certainly don't know, but it'll be really interesting to see how this plays out.

Agreed. Which is why I was disappointed in the event. What I was hoping for was a rerun of last time where AMD was confident enough to compare the 6900XT to the 3090 in their own slides and it turned out to be almost on par. They didn't do this now which indicates it just isn't as fast and the jump in RT on the Nvidia side is so massive at this point, it cannot be discounted as far as buying deicisons go.

Why would it need to be? It’s 60% of the price. At that price it looks like it’s a ******* amazing product compared to what team green have to offer, which is a two year old card with comparable RT that’s worse at everything else.

Right, but you’ve said that where your buying decisions are, you’re 100% price insensitive, you couldn’t care less. There is no buying decision for you, you just look at the top of the list and get that one.

When “that one” is approaching £2k, it’s more or less irrelevant for most of the market. Sure, the 4090 has superior RT, but does the 4080? Does whatever card nvidia put out at 1k? And can those cards keep up with AMD in terms of raster at that level?

So sure, if you don’t care *at all* about the price, nvidia are winning. But most of us don’t buy the Ferrari, and we’re really interested in what the new XF can do vs the 6 series (to really stretch my analogy…)

Lol at these graphs. Radeon is crushing Nvidia on CoD but in all these graphs that game has the biggest gap in favour of Nvidia. That's what you get when you try to make sense of that FSR FPS mess. :)

When we first saw Zen 4 AMD they were sketchy with there number. Just a thought but is it possible they are keeping vague as we are still 5 weeks away from launch and AMD think they can squeeze more performance out with drivers so no point in showing there hand fully. Under promise and over deliver type scenario

Some extrapolated numbers. If even remotely accurate this is a huge wim for AMD and consumers

Damn

If it's even 5-10% slower that is an insane win for AMD.

Nvidia would literally be the product of diminishing returns. £700 extra for 5% more and even then only on some games.

You would have to prioritize RT over general performance to go with Nvidia based on the current prices.

For me I would rather have more general performance over RT and I want to know now how much in the UK!!!

Let me pre-order one dammit!!!
