it will eventually or the tradeoff would be negligible.. i was wondering if nvidia could use machine learning models in real time to early discard instructions that arent going in the final pixel, that should be a sweet bump just on the basis of more optimal resource scheduling, maybe call that dlss 4 because youd still be doing matrix computations on tensor cores

Hardware Canucks claim they have spoken to AMD and specifically asked about the RTX4090 and they claim AMD told them they are not trying to compete with the RTX4090, they are competing with the RTX 4080

I liked how the Google AI was thinking the AMD chiplets were triplets ( if you enabled the live subtitles during the presentation ). And this is something a lot more easier than what a graphics AI should do, i won't put too much trust in the AI. :)

But why not naming their cards 7800 then? They did that in the past with the RDNA1.
This must be said because Nvidia is not the only company trying to sell us a 4070 as a 4080. AMD is also doing this trying to sell a 7800 as a 7900xtx. :)

Theres also a gigantic gap between the price of these cards

And so (most likely) it would be in performance with RT, especially with DLSS3.x

So looking at the extrapolated numbers from Linus at min;

The 7900xtx gets 24fps
The 3090Ti gets about 26/27fps

So for the 7900xtx to have 29.4% less RT Intersections per second than the 3090Ti and get basically the same performance is actually pretty solid surely?

Or the 4090 is not 5.8x / 484% faster than the 7900xtx either. It is appearing to be about 2x faster. So diminishing returns for that side of things.

What will happen when you increase the number of rays in games? The gap, maybe not 4-5x as wide, could increase above 2x times.

You should be comparing prices with performance

If Nvidia priced the 4080 16gb £750-£800 would be no discussion to be had

RDNA 2 had similar raster perf to Nvidia best and similar price gap. And yet it sold very poor. Now, there is a bigger perf gap, the truth is that compared with the 4090 the 7900xtx looks like a 7800xt at most. the 4080 16 gb looks like a 4070.

4080 16gb at £750-£800 would have probably ended 7900xtx , even with slightly less raster but better RT

You can look at it in another way that uplift from 6000 series without increasing RRP

Will they continue with the next release? Pretty sure Nvidia can't just keep hiking every generation

Pretty sure thats Huang's plan and the way people on these forums give him a pass for doing you'd think they had gone all in on nvidia shares

Im thinking these prices are probably why the 4080 12gb was killed off. Not even the die hard team green fanboys could bring themselves to cough up for that in comparison

the idea of a backlash being the reason makes no sense when huang couldnt give two ***** what average consumer thinks

Because it looks like they are tried to copy Nvidias dumb naming scheme where the 7900xtx was went to beat the 4080 16gb and 7900xt beat the 4080 12gb and the reason for using the 9 instead of 8 is to signal to buyers we are faster (marketing stuff..). An actual 4090 or 4090ti competitor would be the 7950xt/7950xtx if such a thing is to exist in the future

I don't see them bringing a better card to the market, at least in the last year. Maybe after Nvidia is releasing the TI, Super and all the other names Jensen can think at, we will see a 7950 released, as we all prepare for the next gen. :)
Look at the last gen how they were always well behind Nvidia while Nvidia released new cards every 3 months.
