RDNA 3 rumours Q3/4 2022

Which charts are you looking at? The 3090Ti in the first 3 games , matches or is slower than a 6950XT

I used the full TPU suite average for 3090Ti vs 6900XT and I expect the raw raster gains for the 4090 vs 3090Ti are in the ball park of what those 3 games show. If NV could have shown more they would have so I don't expect it to be much if any higher on average across a full suite of games.

So lots of extrapolation going on but I expect it is in the right ballpark.

Ultimately if the 2.5x performance rumour is true AMD will have by far the fastest GPU in raster and probably RT even if that gap closes somewhat.

Is 2.1 on par or thereabouts? Not played anything utilising 2, let alone 2.1.

Yup 2.1 looks to be on par, not quite 100% matching dlss but outside of the side by side comparisons, you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference, there is much less ghosting and it's sharper/clearer looking without looking overdone like the previous versions. DF will no doubt have a video at some point on it.

Interesting, thanks. I hope it comes to a game I play soon.

The rumour: 3750mhz max boost clock.

Under LN2 only - 6950XT already does 2.5ghz on air and Der8auer got a 6950XT to 3.2ghz on LN2

Nvidia managed to up their boost clocks by 800 MHZ on the 90 class and 900 on the 70 class. they also reported hitting 3GHz in their labs so 1.3GHz increase in extreme conditions.

the 6800 XT is 2.2GHz boost with the sapphire nitro running at 2.4 GHz boost. So 3-3.2GHZ boost on air is within reach.

The 6750XT is at 2.5GHz. So its RDNA 3 counterpart could start at 3.4GHz on air.

Edit: Extreme conditions gives us 3.5-3.7GHz on the 7800XT and 3.8GHz on the 7700XT.

The rumour: 3750mhz max boost clock.

3750mhz is the max clock limit set in the GPU vbios yes, so not possible to get any card above 3750mhz unless amd release new vbios in the future - maybe 4ghz bios is reserved for a future 7950xt

reference 6950XT is under £800

A decent 6800 none XT is still near £600.

guessing they don't have much stock of the 6800 floating around and have a fair few 6950s?

Maybe, i don't know what to do... Nvidia just launched a £900 4080 12GB 4070, so is that then a £700 4070 4060?

I would like to hope AMD will seize the opportunity to make Nvidia look daft with much more reasonable pricing but we have taught AMD that doesn't actually do anything for their market share, all it does is leave margins on the table, so i don't have a lot of hope for that.

My recent GPU history:

GTX 970, £270
GTX 1070, £370
RTX 2070 Super, £480

Now the ##70 class card is £900.

I can't do this anymore....

Maybe the 2.5ghz clock is for the AMD 7950XT founder edition (or whatever) and that's why the recent rumours have surfaced of a cooler reference card (at 2.5ghz) and now we have rumours of higher clocks because the AIB cards will push the chip way beyond that 2.5ghz clock.
