Strugging????

I don't think you know what that means imo. Try this on for size

Parents earn less then us
Wifes parents earn less then us as well
No other help from anyone
Earnings are small

No savings
Live in a housing assciation flat (1 bed)
Can't afford to rent (rent here is 700 quid or over a month)
Have bums living above myself that don't work and drink all day/night keeping us up.

No garden
Can't afford morgage (well if I save for 5-6 years I might) which I'm doing

Seems to me your alright with your "big salary"

and what a shame you might have to cut down on things. I barely have anything to cut down cause I have little!

Stop supporting your sister if she has any brains it will work out fine for her

You give your sister what i earn a month, im sad :( And my partner earns less. And we have a 5 month old.

May i ask what you and your partner do for jobs? and what you both make a month? I make 1100, and my partner makes 500 (Crappy maternity pay) and after rent/outgoings we dont have a penny to save. I dont even wanna think what would happen if i lost my job :o

All advice, remarks and points heeded. I just don't feel like I'm getting ahead, there is always something to pay. I cannot possibly lay out ever single facet of my life and every single intertwining detail that somehow connects and compounds a situation. My life today is not as good as it was a year ago. I've made some mistakes, I pay for them now. Life is relentless like that.

I'm a PM for a construction firm, my girlfriend is a social worker.

1 question.

Is your current income > than your outgoings?

Dude, if I lose my job, I'm so screwed that it might be worth trying to jump and fly from let's say.... a very very tall building

*makes GF train to be a social worker*

As for me im thick and left school at 16, so withought money it's next to imposible for me to better myself. Shame, i would love nothing more than to give my partner and baby a better life.

I do hope you never loose your job tho, and i hope you manage to work out a better balance of living. MSE website (Thats been said) is very good for saving tips and cutting down little things, and the best cash back offers for things you buy anyway. Give it a shot, everyone can do with more free cash.

And its never to early to put your CV out there, Just incase. It's not like you have to accept job offers. And you hopefully wont have to accept them, butatleast you have all your bases coverd

1 question.

Is your current income > than your outgoings?

Income

8k (give or take a few hundred)

outgoing

4k mortgages
1k sis
1k private pension (mine, she has hers through work)
1k fixed expenses including food and living
1k saving for unexpected and holiday and cars.

youve done it all way too fast and its caught up on you, 2 holiday homes and a home of your own is way more than most ever have, if you have to lose them to keep your house then that is what you have to do, youre only 28!!
as for 6k on a world trip, id book it in for another 3 years time, whats 3 years
you live in a different reality to most, sounds like you never struggled which is why you have absolutely no idea how to deal with it now, your life may have been better a year ago, but it is better now than ours!

Unless you are going further into debt each month I wouldn't worry about it. Carefully plan your finances and put as much as you can afford away for a rainy day.

Well, that's not struggling, that's MORE than enough.

Saving for unexpected holidays and cars? That's a luxury and for a majority of the population, saving £1k a month is a DREAM.

No the worst that could happen is you loose one or two of your holiday homes.

This is about the worst look at how much money I have thread ever. 5 Stars.

It seems your in a similar boat to myself and my wife yet we don't have a child yet (thank god!) if we did we would be on the bread line proper then.

regulus I also hope u dont lose your job and hope u can sort all this out but I suppose to me its hard to see stuggling as the problem when tbh u seems to be loaded (might be paying out a lot but still) u can reduce that without an issue

EDIT - 8k a MONTH!? regulus u taking the *** saying your stuggling?

Really, earning almost £100k a year, i can't believe you claim you are struggling with savings of £1k a month after all bills are paid.

Not to mention you have LOADS of assets, a few homes that you can easily let go (you can only live in 1 house at a time), you can always take a break from your pension, the police won't come up to your door if you don't.

Dude, you are not struggling, you are doing fine. The only thing you are worried about is losing your job. Cross that bridge when you come to it and take steps then, or take some steps now. Sell a house, or 2, make a few hundred thousand and put it in the bank..............

Understand this, the houses CANNOT go. This is out retirement plan/extra income for the future. Thinking about it now, I never should've spoke about numbers and assets since people would automatically draw from their life experiences and somehow make it sound ok to lose that little bit extra you've work your gonads off for years, just to be like them.

Does a person NEED To retire to far away warm places? If they don't will they suddenly drop dead? Like jumping off a building.

Do the logic here please, getting evicted for not paying your mortgages and you jumping off Canary Wharf or selling a holiday home or 2 and have a few hunred thousand in the bank and keep your current home and life style?

You can alway sell you current home come retirement and use the money to get another home in the country of your choice then, you'll STILL have your pension to live on.

What am I missing here?

Some people do not realise that sometimes it does not matter how much you earn, you live by that money, and to be honest with the income you get, i can see why you are getting abit stressed, because you dont seem to have any "fun" money, sure you probably buy more exspensive cars/go on better holidays than the people on less than you, but the items stay the same.

Can you not take a years break from your pension? and enjoy that extra 1k a month? treat the misses to nights out etc. (Make you both a lot happyer with less worry) How long does your sister have left at uni? could she not get a student loan to last her till she finishes?
