Red Dead Redemption 2, GPU Benchmark, What You'll Need To Play!

Vulkan or DX 12?

I'm running the game on Ultra at 4K, but with res scale set to 0.75. Runs around 35-60fps, not brilliant but it's more than playable no jurky feelings so I'm happy with it. I'm running in DX12.

The RTX cards as well as AMD's 5000 series really have jumped compared to previous gen cards.

AMD clearly have better optimisation probably due to the fact the port was developed on AMD platform.

It's good to know that it is a terrible port, performance IS NOT where it should be, considering how good a game like Forza 4 looks, RDR2 is only a little bit better looking and Forza Horizon 4 runs pegged at 60. The performance needs to improve. Glad I'm using controller the keyboard/mouse is apparently terrible.

Just because ultra settings are there, doesn't mean you have to use them.

I'd rather all games come with higher graphical settings that anybody can use yet. It would future proof games for years to come when better graphics cards are available. Instead it's up to modders to keep games relevant with higher quality texture packs etc.

Surely it's great that RDR2 comes with settings that most people can't use yet?

You can not compare a car game to a game like Red dead they is so much more happening in the world of red dead than a car game.

Yes in the open world car gaming you're flying through the scenery therefore it has to render faster.

The performance of RDR2, graphical quality matched against the xbox one x, is ridiculous considering One X funs at 4K/30.

The PC should be able to run it twice as fast, the game doesn't look much different, yet runs cack, the One X is running a 1060, the 1060 REALLY STRUGGLED to run this game.

This IS a bad PORT.

Red dead is rendering why more technology than forza

They can not be compared to each other.

This game on ultra looks stunning compared to the Xbox X version. It also arrives with a sea of graphics and control options, which makes it a wonderful port. There are plenty of things you can tone down to run it on a 1070/2070, whatever else.

Still a terrible port, even the review sites agree it's a terrible port.

It's not its called pushing boundaries, they is some very advanced technology in this game that kills performance it will be a benchmarking highlight for years to come.

I wish more games did this like back when Crysis one came out it pushed modern technology to its limits the same for Red Dead redemption 2

Even with some of the settings turned down it looks way better than the console version plus added bonus of mouse and keyboard controls.

I've played it on the console and on the PC how it looks "way better" is not clear at all.

The performance of a One X is similar to a 1060, computers running a 2080Ti are at their knees for not even twice the graphics or performance. This clarifies it's a bad port.

Rockstar PC ports are always bad, at least to start with.

I suspect they outsource the work, which is always a pathway to shoddyness :(

I do recall GTA V being poor at the start and whilst even a 2080ti still cant fully max that game I suspect by the time RDR2 hits the steam platform some of these issues will be ironed out but don’t expect this to run well even next year on a 3080ti!

2080ti can if my 2070S can almost at 4k minus AA and a few shadow settings

Well i wait for 4k 120hz lol, The way i see it they made a peice of art and i want to see like cinema the directors intent. Why would you pay full price now to not see that?

To me my way is the smart way, I will pay about £10 for this, The other way is like wanting to see the Mona Lisa half painted and paying full price to do it?

I though the One X GPU was basically a custom AMD RX480 with a few more compute units?

It's essentially a "custom" Polaris based GPU with 2560 compute units (instead of 2304 found on the 480/580) and more importantly a 384bit memory interface (compared to 256bit). Clocks are lower than the desktop card but overall performance is solid for the designed target (4K30 which actually makes sense given the weak CPU cores).
