Red Dead Redemption 2, GPU Benchmark, What You'll Need To Play!

Do you reckon the reason why we have both Vulkan and DX12 is because DX12 is for Nvidia and Vulkan is for AMD?

No its more the fact they have already coded for these two API already with the consoles

Playstation 4 uses an OpenGL API that is closer to Vulkan than OpenGL is to running on Windows

Xbox uses DX12

So they added both code paths :D

The question is what do they prefer? Vulkan is the default API but comes with some stuttering with better avg FPS but lower min FPS now forcing Async compute is supposed to fix this.

Rockstar PC ports are always bad, at least to start with.

I suspect they outsource the work, which is always a pathway to shoddyness :(

I remember upgrading my PC and thinking 'Finally, i can play Gta IV' How wrong was i? absolute garbage on any rig!

Agreed and I also remember having to run Fraps to cap the game to 30 fps on the final mission, as it was meant for console with the button bashing and at 100fps +, it was impossible to do.

The issue with GTA 4 was it was the first Rage engine title and the devs working on it wasn't the greatest at coding for the PC the game was supposed to be a strange port onto the pc and resulted in not using the CPU effectively.

This is roumered to be one of the reasons PC never did get Red dead 1

Rockstar have since moved the PC development to a separate studio when Max Payne 3 released.

i take my hat off to you, i never got that far!

i remember the game looking gorgeous though.

The settings in question. This is why PS5 & X2 will do 4K 60, because they decide what the settings they use to achieve that and it's not going to be as high as what you'll have access to on PC. As we can see with RDR2, they go even lower than low on consoles.

Then the performance on pc is totally understandable - it's so far above the console it may as well be a next gen game

IlRockstar has delivered next gen graphics so of course it's going to take beast hardware to push it

rockstar will probably do a straight port of the PC version onto next gen consoles

Like I said this is Rockstar pushing the game way beyond what most devs do. They put themselves in a no win situation here it would seem going from what the community is saying. Poor optimisation? NO, Just pushing the game to new levels that today's hardware is struggling to push at its maximum settings. I say good on Rockstar for taking this gamble, people are so fast to complain when PC games are not getting the extra push they deserve and can you blame devs? if this is what feedback they get?

Poor optimisation! Rushed Port bah bah bah

I would agree if the game looked worst or the same as the console version but its not its way better than what the console version is its just that Rockstar has done an excellent job already for the console to make you think you not getting much more. Wait for DigitalFountry next video to be proven wrong!
