Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

How many towns are there, like Valentine, in terms of size? I only have access to that and the 2nd one in the story mode (chapter 3). I recall the 1st game had 7-8, and everywhere I read says this game is huge so am expecting a few more....

There are more like Valentine, 5 or 6, and one big city. My advice would be to come across them naturally by doing the missions.

Edit. BTW, that is just what I have encountered. I haven't finished yet!

I seriously doubt that. And please, I'm 36 I've played actual classics that are deemed worthy of a 10/10 rating. You could put Zelda A Link to the Past in that category, this however, absolutely no way. It has absolutely nothing to do with slow or immersive gameplay, the main story is just incredibly boring.

I don't think your age has much relevance to how many "actual classics" you've played, to be honest. Again - opinions exist, that is all I have to say.

It's a brilliant game imo, very very enjoyable once you get into the pacing, but it's seriously flawed on many levels. Any reviewer worth their salt should be breaking it down in terms of all the variables, and it would lose points in a few categories. Definitely not 10/10 unless you want to vote with your :feels:

I totally agree, but much like the first on a technical level its pretty amazing what they've done - a game this well put together and runs so well on my pleb console and I've not encountered a single bug yet! Still a much better game than anything released since Zero Dawn imo.

Of course it does. You are trying to suggest that I'm expecting a pick up and play straightaway type of game. I'm not. My original gaming era is from emphasis on gameplay and story, not graphics. Take away this games visual effects, etc and what you are left with is another 'go to X with your horse, do this, speak to that'. I'm on Chapter 5 and the only thing I've done for the past 20 minutes is press up on the gamepad. The story is dull and tedious. Anyway, we'll agree to disagree

It's a classic 'ad hominem' argument; your opinion is irrelevant because of flaws in your personal character. To complete the trope, there's even an "I'm entitled to my opinion." type post on the previous page.

Not worth the time of day to be honest.

It is a brilliant game but way too many annoying flaws to be 10/10 "best game ever made" and all that. Perhaps if it was called Horse Riding Simulator 2018 then it'd score top marks.

Anyway, it looks like I'm still of the opinion that nothing has knocked my beautiful Witcher 3 off the top spot. :p If anyone can do that, it'll be CDPR themselves with Cyberpunk.

I'm enjoying it, the only thing I dislike is the feeding yourself/horse and camp chores side of things, I'm not sure how important this stuff is but I just don't think it adds anything to the game other than a stupid distraction.

Tbh, I'm in chapter 6 now, and it is getting a bit tiresome. The story is still interesting, but half of it is still holding up on the left stick broken up by the occasional shooting gallery. This was acceptable 5 years ago(for some people) but everyone else has moved on now.

Fired up the game. At camp. There's a debt to be collected nearby. I get on ma hoss and go riding out to find em.

I see some guys up on the bluff, they start shooting. It's a bunch of O'Driscolls. They chase and there's a gun fight. I kill the lot of them after a bit of running around. I'm sat on my horse fine in an open bit of field.

The screen fades to black. Loading screen. I'm back at camp, and it's morning. There's a new mission here with Dutch to do.

WTF. I seriously cannot believe what a mess this game is. So many broken 'mechanics' that make zero sense design wise.

What I think I find most bizarre is just how polarised people's experiences are...

I've not had any issues with inadvertently mowing down civilians, crashing into things, getting killed by trains that you couldn't avoid, reloads back to nowhere, inability to aim, etc.

If asked in isolation I would have said it was one of the less buggy games I've played recently :p

Maybe it’s becsuse I only found out this was coming out two weeks ago, but so far I’m really enjoying it.

The only issue is some people are solid and take 3 shots to kill. I’d happily have them writhing around on the floor after one shot, but not getting back up to attach again.

It’s great lassoing anyone mouthy and riding through town with them trailing behind. Just need to wait for the opportune time to leave someone on the train tracks now..... :D

I want to feed someone to an alligator...

I just seen this game come up while browsing youtube the graphics look very good in it

But is the game play any good ? and what do you have to do in this game ? apart from ride around the landscape on a horse

:o..I Have never heard of this game before..:o

Start quest. Go to saloon. I go to the bar, the game decides that I'm going to order beers. Thanks. I decide not to drink the beers. The guy bothering me I politely tell to leave.

The game decides I'm going to get drunk anyway and start fighting people.

It's really starting to bother me how much of a passenger you are in the game. Why bother making this amazingly complex world and then not giving you any agency to do what you want in it?

Only a few hours in but its a bit of a chore. Must say this has to be the most disappointing generation of consoles, I can't think of a single outstanding game other than Zelda and Mario on the Switch.

And after the game has decided I'm going to get drunk and pass out in a field, I'm not back at camp, without a horse.

Am I expected to walk back to town to get my horse that this stupid goddamn game decided it was going to leave there?

Anyone know if there a PC demo we can try ?
No, it's not even confirmed as coming to PC, the previous one never did, although success of GTA V means people are hopeful this time.

Even if it does I reckon you'll be waiting over a year for a PC version.

In a word, yes.

But you can always steal a horse for the journey back to town. Or if you have a stabled horse and a bit of cash, there's a camp upgrade that lets you recall stabled horses to camp.

Same thing happened to me on a different mission.
