Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

Ha. I just got ambushed by some gang and it turned in to a really tough fight as I was surrounded and there were loads of them. I was struggling to hit them and out of dead eye completely. All I had was my revolvers. Then one of them dropped a double barreled shotgun, so I picked it up and went first person. It was awesome... I've just counted the number of x(dead bodies) on the map - 86!
I whole-heartedly recommend playing at least some of the game with a shotgun in first person mode. The animations are amazing.

Should have ended at Chapter 4, or I shouldn't have done so much side content in the run up. The rest of the game was like pulling teeth.

Went away and had a squint at some of the story from RDR 1. Seems like knowledge of that story (especially John being the main protagonist) would have lightened the load a bit. Especially with some of the increasing wooliness in the decisions made towards the end.

It did drag a bit, but I honestly thought chapter 6 was excellent. The way they ramped up the tension was masterful and I thought it was very powerful. I've been very impressed with the 2nd part of the prologue too. Chapter 5 was the dumpster fire as far as I'm concerned. Game would be much better if they removed it.

I always think in open world games it is best to not go off and explore too much until you've got at least a good chunk of the story out of the way.

Had it a week only played about 10 hours i don't look forward to playing it way overrated the controls are clunky it takes ages to loot a corpse or pick something up you can only walk in your camp why i don't know and its too easy to get a bounty on your head.

It's a case of damned if you do damned if you dont with this game. a lot of the side mission characters pop up later on the game, and even in cutscenes for the main missions which wouldn't be possible unless you'd done the side. Then there's the way the game ends, means you lose access to quite a chunk of the side quests. A lot of the markers have disappeared off my map now.

To be honest, open ended missions can end up just as boring. Ghost Recon Wildlands was about as open ended as it gets and that became exceedingly boring after a couple of hours because there was no story or purpose.

I personally prefer the RDR style of more linear missions following a story that is actually half way interesting surrounded by open ended gameplay if you want it.

The game is exactly what I expected and what I wanted. I suppose if you were expecting it to be something else it could be disappointing.

I tend to find openworlds overhyped, not that I necessarily hate them, but I think its telling my all time favourite games are either very linear, or are partial openworld but follow a linear path.

Just started chapter 5 and really not looking forward to it as most people see it a boring and pointless. Will just smash it out as quick as possible to move on.

Did you get the rare shotgun from her cellar ?

I did that was a nice surprise too.
I'm about 25 hours in now, I avoid all of the pointless bits like playing cards, hunting etc. I just stick to all of the mission type stuff and still enjoying it immensely despite its many flaws.

So a question for those that have near enough completed it.

When is the best time to deviate from the main story and do some side missions and activities? I've just got to chapter 3 for reference..

I'm thinking exactly the same, now I know how it all ends and how the story goes from here on I'm prob going to ignore the story and carry on enjoying hunting/fishing/outlawing
I just started chapter 4 last night (43% story done) based near St Denis, so going to leave it at that

You can still do all the hunting/fishing etc. once you complete the story. If anything you need to have completed some steps in order to progress some of them.

So i finished the game last night. Think i came out at mid 80% total completion, I never bothered hunting or fishing, just focused on the side missions and main story. Was - Ok. epilogue for me was the best bit of the game, found it the most enjoyable!

As i completed all the side missions as they came available i now have pretty much nothing else to do. I did try and explore a little bit hoping to find something else to do, found a small town called tumble weed, which didn't give me anything to do also a small town that had been deserted due to an outbreak of cholera so was a bit disappointed to not find anything, unless i am missing something?

Not interested in finding the cards/bones/fishing/hunting so doubt i will do that. So question is do i sell it while its worth something or wait to see if online is any good. I never played GTA online so dont know if i will be that bothered about it.

Also "sane Dannay" (saint Denis) Although a nice looking town which is quite large, i found it lacked much to do!

It's a tough one for you then, did you play the first RDR online?

You've still got a while to go then tbh, it gets quite interesting in chapter 5.

I've still got all of the Exotics to collect, 8 more challenges and I also need to finish the Hunting challenges which starts from the post office in Valentine.

The challenges are a proper pain though. Rob a total of $50 from people is annoying, considering they only give you around 50c at a time!
